Local Officials Slam Impact Fee’s Zoning Restrictions
Township and borough managers, council members and supervisors are pushing back against Republican leaders who want to limit local governments’ ability to zone natural gas drilling.
Two impact fees in front of state lawmakers would place firm guidelines on what municipalities can and can’t regulate, when it comes to Marcellus Shale activity.
Local officials concerned about the measures filled Green Tree, Allegheny County’s municipal building tonight, and railed against the two impact fees for more than two hours. More...

The worst thing that could happen is local township/borough people having any say what so ever with drilling!
Yeah lets handcuff the locals and have the State bend us over repetedly.... Here`s your sign....
BIG CITY Pitt, Phil & Hsbg can't even keep there own people in-tow.
5:14 you believe in a powerful Big Brother government dictating to our townships what they can or can't do? You are not a very good American. In this country, we reserve the power for the PEOPLE. Maybe you should move.
why is it bad for local communities to have a voice? That's just nutty. The impact is local, and the more local people involved the better the entire process will be. The worst way to manage the process is to have those most removed from the impacted communities making decisions that affect the rest of us, especially foreign investors. They don't care about us or our land.
7:41 Yes i am a good american! What i am say is where i live the pockets of the council/supervisors comes first NOT what is best for the town or the people living in the area!
The local (Potter) municipalities have not tried to zone to regulate the industry anyway.
If local officials were going to try to put zoning in place to protect residential areas,
schools, public water sources they would have started the ball rolling by now.
To 9:06:00 PM "They don't care about us or our land." It seems to me (from the onset) that the local officials don't care either.
They have been willing to allow "us and our land" to be put at risk in exchange for the economic benefits for a few lease holders and industry jobs.
when us working folk are dead from fracing the area, then the guys in DC will actually have to work themselves to earn their keep.
An elected official can be voted out. You may need to remind them of this at the next township meeting.
