Margaret Ann Fitzpatrick of 1003 Irving St., Olean, NY--Bolivar Teacher

OLEAN, NY - Margaret Ann "Muggs" Fitzpatrick of 1003 Irving St. passed away Thursday (Dec. 8, 2011) at her home.

Born Feb. 16, 1928, in Bolivar, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Catherine Murphy Sherwood. On Oct. 16, 1965, in St. Marys Church, Bolivar, she married Terence "Terry" Fitzpatrick, who passed away March 4, 2003.

She was a graduate of Bolivar Central School and a graduate of St. Bonaventure University where she received her Bachelor of Science and masters degrees. After graduation, she began her teaching career at Naples and then Williamsville High Schools. She later returned to Bolivar Central School where she taught mathematics until her retirement on June 30, 1989.

She was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church, the Ladies of the Ancient Order of the Hibernians where she chaired several events including the Celtic Ball and the Our Lady of Knock Mass. She also volunteered at several St. Mary's festivals. She was also active in the Enchanted Mountain Figure Skating Club when her daughters were skaters.

Muggs adored her companion dog, Maisy, and was a great fan of the Buffalo Bills and St. Bonaventure Basketball.

She is survived by three daughters, Anne (Mark Hollick) Fitzpatrick, of Wilmette IL; Eileen (Anthony) Fazzone, of Latham, and Pamela Johnson, of Olean; a son, James M. (June) Fitzpatrick, of Hammondsport; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Joyce Sherwood.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by three brothers, Richard, John and Walter Sherwood; two sisters, Mary Hogan and Rita Sherwood; and a daughter, Kathleen Lott, who died on Nov. 20, 2011.

Family received friends Sunday (Dec. 11, 2011) at Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 E. State St., Olean. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. Monday (Dec. 12, 2011). Father Gregory Dobson, pastor of St. Marys of the Angels Church, was celebrant. Burial in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany. A scripture wake service was held in the funeral home at 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942, or St. Mary of the Angels Church, 2020 S. Union St., Olean, NY 14760, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
