Reader Questions PennDOT Mishap?

Jim,

Was just curious why there hasn't been anything mentioned about the Penn-Dot mishap on route 244 near the Kinney Road intersection where I saw on my way to work at around 2:30 this afternoon a very large Volvo excavator lying on its side in the ditch.

It appeared it either fell off the Penn Dot trailer or they flopped it over when it was being loaded , this was approx. 100 feet from a high quality class "A" trout stream. I am sure there had been some fuel spilled.

Is this a "sweep it under the rug " keep it hush hush thing?

Their Management must think they are better than the taxpayers....we the taxpayers fund them. They forget that.

it was "non reportable" because it still ran! You are right its amazing how nothing has been said.. I saw it! Hopefully no one got hurt.

Think about it ! Where does trout unlimited and other tree hugger oganizations get there money? The state! You don't bite the hand that feeds you! If the drilling people would donate to them there would be silence.

There are lots of bumps under Potter's rug.

Made a comment earlier never got posted if u can't post all comments don't bother with any at all

Potter county Penndot dose not sweep stuff under the rug or make it hush hush. They take extrem measures too protect the environment. It's the idiots from the private sector or corporate company's that are on corporate welfare that make it hush hush. Maybe next snow storm Penndot should hand everybody a shovel instead of plowing ur Srs. LOL

Maybe McKean Conservation District should have been contacted - they look after problem cases where the soil may leach into a stream and cause damage. Also, Fish and Wildlife may have been interested.

That machine has a sealed fuel system, so no fuel spilled. No one was injured and the machine went on it's way. I just can't understand why
people fell a need to bash Penndot and it's workers, atleast they are working unlike alot in this county.

Wow, you can tell there was a fuel leak and how it was handled from passing by? You should think about going to work for the DEP...I'm sure they could use a genius like you!!!!

Anonymous said...

atleast he'd be working...lol

you know its funny i work in the oilfield and if we spill a half gallon of fresh water its a national crisis but pen dot spills fuel on the ground and its ok because they had there upsidedown pocket shirts on what a joke

Anonymous said...

Welcome to the penn dot venting forum. Let them have it people

Anonymous said...

believe me if there was a spill the appropriate people would be notified maybe they were on the way when you went by if you dont know the hwhole story why dont you get the facts i work for penndot and it really funy how people can be so critical of condeming us but what about all the long hours we put in to keep you and your families safe on the roads ???

Anonymous said...

Upsidedown pockets, Hahaha that's an original...don't be jealous...heck if you had a high school diploma there's even a chance they'd hire a clown like you. I'm sure they could use a janitor...

Anonymous said...

lol penndot putting in long hours to keep the road safe thats a joke what about coudy last year first snow of the year in the afternoon even when there was a car wreck that left one dead and they finally said hey maby we should plow and sinder now or jast ask the dump truck drivers in kane who said its funny our lease road was better taken care of then the main road...it was funny on a sunday i was at lances corners eating and there was a foot of snow on the road at 10am and the plows at the state shed were all there not even running

Anonymous said...

What is it with people around here and conspiracy theories? Nothing was hush hush and nothing was swept under the rug. Get a grip people.

Anonymous said...

It's funny how one car wrecks it's penndots fault, what about the hundred's of cars that didn't come on people. Penndot can't make you a better driver you have to do that yourself. I also work for penndot and believe it or not we do put in alot of hours in the winter. When there is a wreck i take it to heart, but we can't make your car drive better we can only make them passable and i feel we do a good job at that.

Penn Dot employees work very hard. They work late into the night and get up early in the morning when the weather is at it's worst. They work out in the hot summer weather and no they don't stand around leaning on shovels all day. You don't know what was happening at the wreck by just passing by. You don't know what calls were made and what procedures were followed. Please give these hard working men and women respect just as I'm sure you would want the same respect shown to you.

Got one for the stupid idiot that works in the gas field. You people contaminate drinking water, pollute the air, take back flow loaded wt chemicals & poor it in the ditches and spread it on the roads. All the erosion from the new pipe line put polluted the trout stream from Loucks mills too the other side of the Grand Canyon.

I would luv too see Penndot just sit back for one snow storm Penndot bashers try too drive thru 4-10 inches of snow & ice. Since Penndot dose nothing why start now. U people complain over a scuff of snow ha ha.

Anonymous said...

Penn Dot employees do work hard, and we appreciate all that you do, and the long hours you put in during winter months. I just wish I could talk to the higher ups in Penn Dot, or whoever thought it was a good idea to use salt brine on the roads. Used to be accidents were just fender benders, but more and more they are fatalities, because of black ice. Where does the black ice come from? Residue from the salt that is put on the roads. Salt attracts moisture if it isn't processed like table salt is, so any residue sits on the road when it isn't even snowing and attracts moisture, creating black ice, which no one can drive safely on. Please go back to using cinders! Even snow has more traction than ice - give me a snow-covered road over an icy road anyday!

Wow - To the men I know personally that work for PennDot, who, this winter, will make it THEIR BUSINESS to plow the roads for YOUR PLEASURE (and safety), this is blatant disrespect. Why does it have to be posted on this website? Protocol, I'm sure, was followed. And protocol doesn't include reporting to Solomon's Words. Get real, for real!!

Wow...not picking on any one person, and i know this isnt school and we shoudlnt be perfect. But come on, I seen a few total run on sentences and poor grammer. =/ Could yall at least pass it off for an actual attempt to make a clear point please?

Anyways with that said:
1) Without knowing all the facts, one should not be making assumptions about a situation, and making accusations. If we all did this, innocent people would end up in jail all the time.

2) You really shouldnt bash a whole organization on the actions of a few. For example, there may be some who dont agree with the war and how it was started and so on, did we blame the military? Or did we blame the President? Apply that same principle here.

3) As others have said, Penndot busts their asses off so that the roads are clear in the winter early in the morning, and they cant complain about how cold it is and decide not to do it. And they do keep the roads clean without complaint. Is it 100%? maybe not, BUT your not driving thru deep snow, and the roads arent nearly as dangerous right? So stop bashing Penndot so much...dang peeps.

We are all only human. With that said you should expect some errors in judgement, but you must also remember theres things you didnt see, so without seeing the whole thing, you shoudlnt get so upset without finding out the whole truth. If there was anything to report, then im sure it woulda been reported. If anything leaked im sure they would have reported it, but you could come off lucky and wreck/roll something and not get any leaks and such.

However if there was a leak and they didnt do anything about it, hopefully someone that KNOWS the whole story speaks up.

3:17 No machine has a sealed fuel system it has to vent. What about motor oil, hyd.oil, anti freeze? A machine on it's side leaks! Been there done that had to clean it up! 6:08 what does penndot put on the roads that runs into the steams ? One final question cause i just can't help myself. Whats yellow and sleeps six? Bahhahahaha !

To comment on Penn Dot does nothing hmms. My husband worked for Penn dot and last year he worked over every night and worked ever Sunday. Everyone says its Penn-Dots fault when someone wrecks. Well then it most be a Penn-Dot worker who was driving. Right?? If its there fault they where driving. You know most dont know this but Penn-Dot does not have to come out when its starts to snow they can stay home and come out when its finished or the roads are covered by at least 6 inches or more. But they go out and work hard and put in long hours. To keep the roads clear when they can. They cant be every where all the time. Each driver has many miles to travel. If you want to bitch and complain go do it yourself or let our Governor do what he wants to contract it all out. Then see what happens. As for the mishap that happened I am sure Coudersport and Mckean counties are looking in to it. Jees people takes time.

lets think of it this way...If it was a private indidual, or a farm tractor, tipped at the same exact area, same situation, wouldn't an emergency service have been called? Hmmmm!

Anonymous said...

7:11 you said it they crusify gas workers and say they ruin water when the very chemicals we pump down hole they pour on roads its all just money and polotics..and i do beleive the oilfield worker was just saying its funny that when they spill its unholy but someone else does it, its ok and no one really makes a big deal about it

All of u Penndot bashers are as smart as a retarted mule.

Anonymous said...

lets see how many of you call in to penn dots office to thank us if were called out to plow and sand roads on christmas so you penn dot bashers can spend the day with your families while our families spend christmas without us........

5:43---The Rug got removed after the sweeping.
Also- If Pen Dot workers only got 8-hours a day and 40 a week, for 52 weeks a year they would be on Welfare. That’s just because they couldn’t make it without the over time. They live for that!
Now bitch about the long hours!

Reesy, Keating Summit is one of the worst! I drive from Port to Emporium everyday and most days after it snows, I'm driving thru the snow.. Meetcha at the Keating Summit pub at 5:30pm.. that's when I get off my 10 hour shift.. :)))

Don't take it personal. You can only do what your spvr tells ya to do.

If you wish to bash the grammer of others - please, make sure yours is correct!!

Anonymous said...

You better not bash my grammer....she works for pendot and she'll bash you back!!

One)Can Penn dot please publish the report of this incident? Second) Penn dot is an operation that the customers pay for... and the employees are reimbursed for the work provided. They are not volunteer's. Their job is to keep the road's safe regardless of the hours or the conditions. If your customer's have comments' (positive or negative) you need to look at your operation and act accordingly. I'm sure you can rid the criticism of this event by simply sharing the report.

I have never met a penndot worker that didn't bitch about overtime or how hard they work! Dec 22 1:07 thank you for doing your(well paying full benefits) job? I don't think so! Keating stockpile please Austin area roads are the worst! Better get some lessons from Cameron County!

Ho! Ho! Says-- said...

9:14 you said well paying full benefit job. Ok if you know so much then tell me what I make per hour? Instead of running your spineless hole in your face tell us something you do know. And just to make you look even more pathetic Cameron county gets 1/4 of the snow keating does but again you are a idiot who knows how to run your trap without any facts just like the rest of you idiots on here. It's a non reportable accident which means there was no spill!! Can you people get any dumber or do you understand that?

I hope PennDOT personnel don't take any of these comments seriously because most are ribbing. Merry Christmas Penndotters! Hope you don't have any snow to plow on Christmas Day and can be home with your family.
Hohoho..
