Salamance Native Takes Junior Sailor Of The Year Award

Former Salamanca resident, BM2 Alexander Hiller, age 25, US Navy, accepts the East Coast Junior Sailor of the Year award from Admiral Breckinridge at the Navy Sub Base New London, Groton, Connecticut.

Hiller will continue on to the next step in the competition to National level that will be held in Norfolk, Virginia in January 2012.

A member of the US Navy since 2003, BM2 Hiller is a veteran of Iraq, Bahrain and most recently Afghanistan.

Currently on shore duty at the Navy Sub Support Facility, Alexander grew up in Salamanca and attended Salamanca High School before enlisting in 2003. His parents, Philip and Lori Hiller, still reside in Salamanca.

WTG BM2 Hiller! what an honor, you should be very proud of yourself. my son was up for sailor of the quarter but wasn't selected it was a very special moment in our lives.. keep up the good work an thanks for keeping us safe..
