Vehicle Avoids Car Crash But Hits House

A Bradford man was moderately injured Wednesday afternoon at 4:36 pm when he swerved his vehicle to avoid hitting a stopped car in front of him, and instead struck a house and sheared off a gas meter allowing natural gas to escape into the air.

Richard B. Green, 69, of Bradford, PA, was transported by Bradford City Ambulance to Bradford Regional Health Center, after he was removed from the crashed vehicle. State Police described his injuries as moderate.

In a news release, Trooper Daniel J. Woods wrote that the crash occurred as Green's 2006 Chrysler 300 was traveling north on Rt. 219 in Lewis Run Borough when Green attempted to stop for a car that was stopped in front of him. Knowing he was not going to be able to stop, he swerved the car to the right, left the roadway and struck the residence located at 1459 South Avenue.

Green was wearing a seat belt. Lewis Run Volunteer Fire Dept. closed the road for a short time while they extricated Green from the vehicle and managed to shut off the gas line. Natural Fuel Gas was called to the scene.

Green was cited for (not) Driving Vehicle At Safe Speed. Clayt's Towing removed the vehicle.
