Denton Hill Ski Operators Consumate Purchase Of Swain Resort In Allegany County

New owners complete purchase of Swain ski resort

Star Gazette

Denton Hill Family and Ski Resort Inc., which operates Ski Denton near Galeton, Pa., completed the purchase of the Swain ski resort in Allegany County.

The purchase price was not disclosed.

The ownership team is made up of two couples, Scott and Jodi Carts and Shawn and Celeste Schoonover.

Swain Resort has been in business for 64 years and is one of the oldest continuously operating ski areas in New York State.

The new owners have turned it into a year-round facility which provides skiing, snowboarding, and a snow tubing park during the winter months and has mountain biking, motor cross racing and sportsman festivals during the other three seasons.

The Allegany County Office of Development and the Allegany County Industrial Development Agency assisted in the transaction.

The Carts and Schoonovers have been operating Swain for the past two years while completing the deal to buy the facility from the previous owner.

The ski area was operated by the state until 1979, when it became a concession run by a private contractor now named Ski Denton.

"assisted in the transaction."
what does that mean?
probably it means tax dollars are being taken from the working class to subsidize the skiers.

so when that school kid got killed skiing the other year it wasn't the state's problem but the local owners of the skiing.. I C.. thank you....

8:59--Acidents happen do to no ones fault.
They were very emotional plus deeply affected and sadden by these accidents.
Some thing that you wouldn’t understand.
It was never anything taken lightly by them. Nor by any of the Responders.
The tears and hurt in their eyes for the victim will always be with me.

I wish them the best and am hoping for some SNOW!!!
