Downtown Revitalization Program Coming In March

Downtown Revitalization Program Coming In March

jan28mainstreetcommjohnbryBusiness districts in Potter County communities are struggling and community leaders are looking for help in bringing them back to life.

The Potter County Commissioners are hosting a program by a specialist in downtown revitalization, John Bry, in the Gunzburger Building auditorium at 7 pm on Thursday, March 29. Coudersport Area Chamber of Commerce and the Potter County Visitors Association (PCVA) are among organizations supporting the program.

Bry, a resident of Albion, Indiana, is founder and president of the Madden Company. He has provided consulting for historic community resources such as downtowns, heritage tourism, neighborhoods, and historic cemeteries. For a decade, Bry was employed as a Main Street Manager in the Midwest. He is also one of the few nationally certified downtown revitalization professionals in the country. In 2005, he was named a program coordinator with the Pennsylvania Downtown Center in Harrisburg. Commissioner Susan Kefover is spearheading the March 29 program and reports that more details will be announced.

I will never understand paying someone to tell you what you need to do in order to improve the look of your town! Is no one smart enough to look around and come up with a plan? The ADMA/Austin borough spent $70,000.00 for some drawings of what Austin and the dam (could) be! Now all they have to do is come up with 3 million dollars to make it happen! My point is $70,000.00 would have made a huge improvements in the town.

to 1:04 that is very well said
just think what 70,000.00 could do to improve town and area. unfortunatly this is another example of govt. waste have to study it for 6-8 years at an enormous cost and then decide can't afford to do it cause we spent all the money studyin it.

this guy is an "expert",, then why has Harrisburgh filed for bankruptcy??? spent too much money studying what they knew had to be done to quote RAY STEVENS
it is time we "THROW THE BUMS OUT"

To the 1:04 PM poster. Apparently no one locally is smart enough to come up with a plan. Look around the towns & see them decay a bit more every year. Help us if you can by coming to the meeting. It is so easy to complain, but difficult to find solutions.

You want to bring Potter County back to life? Vote Rep in Nove and watch the town come back to life come Jan.

Hey 4:48, we had a Republican Pres for 2 terms. That's when the local towns went south. Takes time to bring'em back.
But let's look for solutions instead of pointing a finger.

Solutions???

#1 Get rid of the damn parking meters.

#2 Force the store (what there is of them) and office employees NOT to park on Main Street or East 2nd Street.

6:23 you should work for obama! You sound just like he has for the past 3 years going on 4 and he needs 4 more years to get things on trac! I pray to god he doesn't get 4 more years!

I've not seen and mention of a fee for this program. Lets be positive about the downtown area. Susan Kefover and others are trying to work for a better "downtown". I'd much rather spend my money locally. We were unable to keep J.C.Penney's anyone remember how many times Penney moved the store in Olean .Would it not be of some satisfaction to see downtown thrive and perhaps a store like Penney's to come back and realize what a mistake it was to move out.Think of Ellicottville NY. the main attraction is Skiing. Its a beauitful town with many small business that seem to be making it. Please use your energy to help work together and not pit town against town.

i agree we need stores back in town. an not like wrights wife had couldn't afford any thing and she only carried x-small. hey what happeneed to his big co-op people bought into , were did that money go???? how about a walmart,bj's kmart, so we don't have to go so far lets put the money here in our town

All you have to do is look around take the general publics advice. Talk to the people that have stores ect. Paint the buildings repair the sidewalks good looking signs work wonders. Clean and kept up should be the first thing.I live in a town where the people and the local council could give a crap. Falling down buildings on main st.and empty falling down houses on every street! If tourists, people looking to buy a home, people looking to start a business, retire and move to the area see decay and a place that has been let go they drive right on by and don't look back! I couldn't tell you how many times this happens here!

One of the largest employers in the county, and the largest funded by taxpayers, is Human Services. They should have located this agency in Coudersport, the county seat. More clients, employees, etc. being exposed daily to local business. Nothing against Roulette, but most human services agencies in other counties are in the population centers. The commissioners had a chance to move human services, and the reason they didn't had little to do with cost savings from the building in Roulette.
