By DONALD GILLILAND, The Patriot-News

After more than six years in federal court, the government has withdrawn tax evasion charges against John Rigas and his son, former leaders of Adelphia Cable Communications. John Rigas, Adelphia’s founder and CEO, and his son Timothy, who served as the company’s Chief Financial Officer, were convicted of conspiracy, securities fraud and bank fraud in 2004, two years after... GOOD! I see no point in just paying a bunch of lawyers to prosecute people that still have several years left in their sentences. It would have been a waste of taxpayer dollars!

No additional jail time perhaps, but the IRS is apparently still going to open up a can of whoop ass on them. They owe taxes that belong to US, and I hope the taxing authorities get the money that WE are owed.

My Dad lost alot of money cuz of these two guys. Hard to believe anybody from Coudy would act like they did.

Remember, this was money that was not his! He knew what he was doing, and was caught with his hand in the cookie jar, along with his son! They are not hero's folks, we are still cleaning up their mess, and they do owe taxes to us! They are criminals plain and simple.

They ought to let the old guy out. This was a politically charged case from the beginning; remember the feds showing up and making a big scene of his arrest and cuffing. He wasn't a friend of Bush/Cheney and was just made an example of. He's done enough time.

Why is it when you post the truth, in a sensible manner, but once I write the word Rigas, it never gets posted? John took money. John gave people personal loans that wasnt his money. Let him serve his time for stealing. Over 7 billion has dissapeared! Poof! Wouldnt you sit in jail knowing that some of this money will be waiting for you when you get out? they are going to be billioanaire's when they get out! Hang in there guys! not much longer to go!!

They ought to let the old guy out? That is like saying the United States should pardon all the old German officers and the old German soldiers for their war crimes during WWII. Lets just forgive them, they are old now!
They all need to be held accountable for their crimes, I dont care if he is 100 years old. He stole money. He was found guilty. He ruined alot of lives in Coudersport and Potter County, alot of people had to move away because of what he did, alot of Adelphia employees loved living there because they had a job that payed well, and was stable, but their career was built on stolen money.

I will never believe for a second that John Rigas had any idea of what was going on. I grew up next to a family who had next to nothing. They did have a son who was extremely ill with cancer. John Rigas was the person who made sure that this kids medical needs were taken care of-right down to paying the bill to have him flown out when the family thought they were going to lose him. I never saw anything but a compassionate and giving man out of John Rigas.

If i had billions at my fingertips i would help everyone i could! The problem with John doing it is that he was using investors money! As for Tim he was also spending investors money like a drunken sailor! There was also some cooking the books so they could get more money.

Poster 2:55, again, it was not his money and he did know what he was doing. At least the stolen money went to a good cause.

I wonder how long it will take the government to sentence their star witness against the Rigases, who did plead guilty and is hoping for a lighter sentence?

Who cares about the star witness. As long as the 2 crooks are in jail, justice has been served.
