Injured Genesee Teenager At Erie Trauma Center After Crash

A Genesee, PA teenager suffered major injuries in a one vehicle crash on the Eleven Mile Road Thursday morning at 7:45 am.

Maranda J. Coyle, 18, of Genesee, PA, was extricated from the crashed vehicle and transported to Charles Cole Memorial Hospital by Shinglehouse Ambulance and Medic 6, where she was later transported to Hamot Medical Center in Erie.

Weather did not allow medical helicopters to fly to the scene.

An update from a family member on her injuries at 11:00 pm on Friday night said:

"We were able to see Maranda today at Hamot Trauma Center in Erie She is sedated and not awake yet. We all hope she will wake up soon but it could be several days due to the sedation and healing processes. Her left hip and and leg were shattered and they put a metal rod & pins in and that surgery went very well. She has two fractures in her neck. Her shoulder & arm are not broken. She is not allowed flowers but cards & prayers are welcome."

Trooper James R. Culvey, who investigated the crash, said in a news release tonight, that the crash occurred as Coyle was traveling westward on Eleven Mile Road, 265 feet west of Kibbeville Road, when she lost control of the 1997 Dodge Ram while negotiating a left curve in the roadway.

The right side tires of the pickup exited the northern edge of the roadway causing the operator to correct to the left. She then over-corrected back to the right, causing the pickup to exit the northern edge of the roadway where it struck a tree with it's left side. The truck then came to rest on it's passenger side, facing southward on the northern roadside.

A family member said the tree hit directly in Coyle's driver side door and the damage to the pickup is really bad. Dave's Auto of Shinglehouse removed the truck from the scene.

Shinglehouse Fire Dept. assisted State Police at the scene.

Thank god she survived. It will be a long healing process but at least she is alive. Burms can be scary when you slip off a little and cause exactly what happened to her. I remember having a similar thing on Route 6 long ago and spinning out of control. Fortunately I stayed on the road. Prayers go out to her and her family for a full recovery.

Sending my thoughts & prayers to Maranda and her family! I've known her Mom & Dad for many years and offer any help I can give them! I know from my own experience sliding on slippery roads can be very scary! Sometimes no matter how careful or slow you are you still have spinning or sliding. Thankfully, I have been more fortunate in my incidents than Maranda have not been hurt. I hope that Maranda is able to make a full recovery. God be with her & her family!

I don't know Miranda very well but when I heard what had happened it left my heart heavy and I felt extremely saddened. She seems like a nice girl. She is definitely in my prayers. I hope she gets better soon.
