BROOKVILLE - It took a jury of eight woman and four men less than two hours Tuesday to find Stephen P. Rebert guilty of all counts in the murders of Wayne and Vicky Shugar.

Rebert stood passively between his attorneys, Public Defender John Ingross and his assistant, Jacqueline Mizerock, as the verdict was read aloud.

In the benches behind Jefferson County District Attorney Jeff Burkett, members of the Shugar family were overcome with emotion. Wayne and Vicky Shugar were found shot to death in their Coal Tipple Road home on April 12, 2012.

Rebert was found guilty on nine counts; two counts of first degree murder, two counts of second degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault, one charge of burglary, one count of robbery and one count of theft by unlawful taking.

Judge John Foradora set Thursday at 9 a.m. for the sentencing portion of the proceedings to begin. The Commonwealth is seeking the death penalty. More...
