Eunice Julia Barber, Friendship, NY

FRIENDSHIP, NY - Eunice Julia Barber went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday (Feb. 8, 2012).

She was born the eldest daughter of Clarence and Lucille Groves on May 11, 1938. She was raised in West Clarksville and graduated from Richburg Central School with honors in 1956.

In 1960, she married Odis Lee Barber Sr. of Florida; he preceded her in death.

She attended Alfred University and received an associate degree in business in 1975. In 1984, she graduated from Houghton College with a bachelor's degree in social science. For several years, she served on the board of the Southern Tier Legal Services in Belmont. Eunice worked for the Allegany County Office for the Aging and the Allegany Rehabilitation Center, from which she retired in 2004.

She was very involved in her church, Friendship Church of God in Christ, where she served as a church mother, missionary, president of the trustee board, church pianist and Sunday school teacher. Her hobbies included sewing and cooking. She also enjoyed traveling, spending time with her family and serving as the family historian.

Surviving are her six children, Odis Lee and Carol Barber Jr. of Allegany, Michael Barber of Friendship, Nadine Barber of Friendship, Brian and Elizabeth Berber Cowburn of Ulysses, PA, Mark Barber of Olean and Felicia Barber of Tallahassee, FL; 12 grandchildren. Andre, Brandon, Jaylin and NaKeisha Barber, Trevin and Owen Barber, Jessica Barber and James, Logan, Arianna, DeVante and Mateo Barber; four great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; a brother, the Rev. Dr. Russell and Lorraine Groves of Baltimore; Naomi Soloman of Friendship; Emmanuel and Luci LaVenture of Friendship; and Joseph Groves of Friendship.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday (Feb. 13, 2012) at Friendship Church of God in Christ. The viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Friendship Church of God In Christ, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday.
