House Votes to Repeal CLASS Act

Portion of President’s Health Care Law Deemed Financially Unsustainable

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson today voted to support H.R. 1173, the Fiscal Responsibility and Retirement Security Act, which passed the full house by a vote of 267-159.

“Sold under the guise of long-term care, the CLASS Act was designed to mask the true cost of the President’s health care reform law, with the administration now admitting the program is unsustainable,” said Rep. Thompson. “The CLASS Act is one of many costly provisions in the health care law undermining economic growth and burdening our nation’s employers with new regulations and unforeseen costs, and the Senate should follow the House’s lead and pass this repeal.”

H.R. 1173 repeals provisions of the President’s health care reform law known as the Community Living Assistance Services and Supports Act, or CLASS Act. In October, the Department of Health and Human Services acknowledged that the CLASS Act was not financially sustainable.

“It’s not just the CLASS Act, it’s the entire health care law – a burdensome network of regulations and tax hikes – that is unsustainable,” Rep. Thompson added. “That’s why we must continue our work to repeal and replace this law with commonsense reforms that lower health care costs, expand access, preserve quality, and foster economic growth.”

If you follow the link provided you'd see that the president himself pulled the plug on this in October.

GT's big announcement is mere grandstanding. The administration had already chosen not to implement this.

But, and here's the tell, GT's fellow congress critters killed the whole concept of finding sustainable long term health care for disabled WITHOUT trying to fix it, find alternatives or propose anything in it's place.

You see, Congress doesn't care if you go bankrupt while caring for your elderly parents.

GT seems to be proud that...they chose not to address the problem. Which, by the way, is VERY evident in this rural community.

The only reason obama pulled the plug is the fight he got from the republicans! May i remind you that congress is under democratic control!

Throw the whole "obamacare" in the trash, along with the idiot who pushed it through in the dark of night behind closed doors. He will go down as the worst wanna-be president in this country's history. He is clueless...

I'm amazed. The republican party has a very long history of supporting the wealthy and big business, both of which are not what you'd call most of the people in North Central Pennsylvania, and not supporting the lower classes, but yet, so many people living in this area who are not upper class, many not even middle class, support the republican party.

Why is this? The republican party doesn't care about average joe citizen and his struggles to survive. So, why support them? Is it some belief that if you join their party you think you'll gain their support? That's foolish.

Some people need to wake up and think for themselves instead of believing what biased media outlets tell them to believe.
