James S. Prentiss, 68, of 22 Hillside Drive, Limestone, NY

James S. Prentiss, 68, of 22 Hillside Drive, Limestone, passed away Friday, February 17, 2012 at Bradford Regional Medical Center.

Born September 2, 1943, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Claude S. Prentiss and Viola E. (Caputo) Prentiss Bosworth.

On June 28, 1980 in Olean, he married Rhonda L. Weigartz who survives.

He was a 1963 graduate of Bradford High School.

He had been employed at the Crosby Dairy Farm, Miles Bradford Company, Bonny Brook Group Home, Corning Glass, Bradford Area School District and most recently at Evergreen Elm.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and digging leeks and ginseng.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, Matthew (Kristen) Prentiss of Bradford, Shawn (Lisa) Prentiss, Sr. of Gifford, Steven Prentiss of Canaan, NH, Michael Prentiss of Limestone, NY and James Prentiss, Jr. and Denise Prentiss, both of Florida; three grandchildren, Shawn Prentiss, Jr., Anthony Prentiss and Courtney Prentiss; a sister, Claudia Ingram of Kane; two brothers, Jerry Prentiss of Bradford; William Prentiss of Bradford and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ann Prentiss.

Friends are invited to call Monday, February 20, 2011 from 11:00 to 1:00pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc., East Main Street, where funeral and committal services will be held at 1:00pm, with Rev. Patrick Cox, Pastor of Grace Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions, if desired, can be made to the Limestone Volunteer Fire Department, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
