Roulette Man Loses $10,000.00 In Telephone/Mail Scam

An elderly Roulette resident is the apparent victim of a scam perpetrated on the phone and through the mail between January 1, 2010 and February 14, 2012, that relieved him of an estimated $10,000.00.

Trooper Kocher of PSP Coudersport said the 85 year old victim was contacted via telephone and mail and notified that he was the winner of a substantial amount of money. The unknown scammer(s) notified the victim that he should send money via Western Union in order to claim/pay taxes associated with the earnings. The victim sent the money by Western Union, but was not provided the winnings.

Ed. note: PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE make sure your elderly relatives and friends know about how these scams work so they won't be taken advantage of. NEVER SEND MONEY!! Legitimate contest winners are never asked to send money.

This is so very sad. I don't understand why some have to try and scam others especially the elderly. Breaks my heart to hear this. I sure hope they catch who did this and get the money back.

PERFECT SOLUTION when they tell you you have won the money tell them to take the money they need from you from the money you won and send you the goes silent and they don't know what to say...

Happens all the time in Florida and they rarely if ever get the money back! Sad! Education of the elderly is the only prevention.
