Faulty cable blamed for 9-1-1 outage

BROOKVILLE -- A three foot section of a copper trunk cable is being blamed for the temporary interruption of 9-1-1 services within Jefferson County early Friday morning, March 9 according to Jefferson County Emergency Services Director Tracy Zents.

"9-1-1 operators were experiencing problems hearing callers late Thursday evening," said Zents. "Windstream, the telephone provider for the 9-1-1 service to the county, was contacted and was troubleshooting the problem at the time of the outage.

"A three foot section of a copper trunk line located within the Borough of Brookville became wet and stopped connectivity to the equipment located at the 9-1-1 center around 2:20 a.m.," said Zents. "Due to the 9-1-1 phones being out, we immediately activated a county " all call" which brought all police, fire and ambulance station personnel to their station to man their phones in case anyone needed emergency help.
