Bernard J. “Buzz” Little, 74, of 459 Columbia Hill Rd., Smethport, PA

Bernard J. “Buzz” Little, 74, of 459 Columbia Hill Rd., Smethport, PA, passed away on Monday, May 14th, at his residence.

Bernard was born in Limestone, NY on December 13, 1937, a son of the late J. Norman and Mary (Carr) Little.

On August 20, 1960 in Bradford, he married Kay L. (Newman) Little, who survives him.

Mr. Little was a 1956 graduate of Limestone High School, and a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a degree in Business Administration.  

On July 11, 1956, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, along with his friend Richard (Carol) Erickson, and served during the Vietnam War.  He was awarded the Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, NCO Academy Graduate Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force longevity Service Ribbon with four Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force outstanding Unit Award with three Oak Leaf Clusters.  He retired June 30, 1980 at the rank of Captain.

He returned to the Bradford Area and became Chief Juvenile Probation Officer for McKean County and later worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a Claims Investigation Agent.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Smethport, the American Legion Bucktail Chapter in Smethport, Smethport Country Club, McKean Lodge #388 F&AM, Coudersport Consistory, and a member of the Eastern Star where he served as a Past Patron.

In addition to his wife Kay of 51 years, he is survived by three sons, Mark (Sophia) Little, of Fredericksburg, VA, Chad (Tammy) Little, of Huntingdon and Tim (Stacey) Little, of West Pittston, three sisters, Eline Jordan, of Smethport, Beverly (Paul “Rusty”) Johnston of Punxsutawney and Donna (Larry) Douthit, of Bradford, and four brothers, Harold (Paulette) Little, of Bradford, Harry Little of Limestone, NY, Charles (Wanda) Little of Smethport, and James (Dolly)  Little, of Little Valley, NY, one sister-in-law, Patricia Little Finlan, Ormsby, nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, N. Richard “Dick” Little and one brother-in-law, Hazen Jordan.

Family will be receiving relatives and friends on Saturday, May 19, 2012, from noon to 1:00pm at the Hill Memorial United Methodist Church, 44 Kennedy Street, where the Celebration of his Life will be held at 1:00pm with Rev. David Bunnell, officiating. Members of McKean Lodge #388 F&AM will conduct a masonic service at 12:50pm in the church. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc.
