Mike Duffy Killed In Airplane Crash In East Smethport

A Smethport businessman was killed Thursday afternoon at about 5:30 PM, when the ultra-light aircraft he was attempting to fly, crashed at a private airstrip in East Smethport, Keating Township, McKean County.

Michael R. Duffy, 48, Smethport, PA, died instantly in the crash, according to Trooper Douglas Kramer of the Kane barracks who investigated.

Assisting at the scene were the Smethport Volunteer Fire Department and the McKean County Coroners Office.

Duffy was an owner of Duffy, Inc., an East Smethport business that mines sand and gravel, contracts for heavy earthmoving and construction projects, and has a large trucking business. Mike was well known and respected throughout the northern tier of Pennsylvania.
