Beatrice “Bea” Springer, 92, of Coudersport, PA

Beatrice “Bea” Springer, 92, of Coudersport, PA, passed away Friday, July 20, 2012 in Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport with her loving family at her side.

Born June 5, 1920 in Coudersport, she was a daughter of Reva and Florence Eaton Buchanan. On August 20, 1945 in Philadelphia, she married A. Glenn Springer, who died on April 12, 2001.

Mrs. Springer was a graduate of Coudersport High School, class of 1938. She was a waitress at the Hotel Crittenden in Coudersport and later Bea worked at the former Eldred Munitions Factory during World War II, was formerly employed at Westinghouse in Philadelphia, and later for many years was employed as a nurse’s aide at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital in Coudersport. She retired from the former Pure Carbon Company in Coudersport after 10 years of service, retiring in 1983.

After her retirement, Mrs. Springer and her husband traveled extensively. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved to knit, read, garden and watch birds. Bea was a very helpful person to anyone in need. Her greatest love was her family.

Surviving are two sons, Glenn A. (Susan) Springer, Jr. of Williamsport and Carl A. (Kim) Springer of York; two daughters, Glenda J. (Larry) Sippel of Pittsburgh and Sally M. Lodge of Coudersport; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Hasting of Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Springer was predeceased by three sisters, Hazel Yentzer, Wilma Hurd, and Alice Toombs.

In keeping with Bea’s wishes, there will be no public visitation. Burial will be in the Ulysses Cemetery, Ulysses.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Coudersport Public Library, Park Avenue, Coudersport, PA 16915; the Potter County Hospice, 1001 East Second Street, Coudersport, PA 16915; or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
