DA doesn't probe violent arrest in Bradford County

DA doesn't probe violent arrest
None of officers in videotaped Pa. incident have been charged

Written by Steve Reilly
Star Gazette
TOWANDA — Public outrage over a video showing the violent arrest of a Vestal resident by Pennsylvania State Police in 2010 has not persuaded Bradford County’s prosecutor to investigate.

In dashboard surveillance footage released a month ago, Pennsylvania State Police troopers are recorded as they punch, Tase, jump on and verbally harass Robert Leone of Vestal at the conclusion of a 15-mile, low-speed chase through Bradford County.

While Leone is 2½ years into a a 16-to-48-month jail sentence, none of the officers have faced criminal prosecution.

The video sparked coverage by national and international media in recent weeks and weekly protests on the steps of the Bradford County Courthouse. A Facebook group called “Freedom and Justice for Robert Leone” has more than 9,000 members, and the edited clip of the surveillance video has been viewed more than 300,000 times on YouTube.

However, Bradford County District Attorney Daniel Barrett said no new evidence has emerged since the release of the video that would cause him to look into the incident further. More...

This is what happens when you resist arest. Stop when your being pulled over and don't fight the cops when being arested. This dirt bag got everyhting he deserved.

after watching video its hard to have any kind of respect for the psp. Bradford county is not alone though, look at the coverup that was taken place in Potter and what they did to the district justice. Looks like psp needs a good cleaning out.

He should of stopped! When flashing lights are behind you they want you to stop! He didn't.. Did he deserve what he got? No but all he had to do was stop! Your not to fear the police if you done no wrong but it all would of been cleared up if he would of just stopped!

Don't forget that the youtube video is an edited version of the original. Also keep in mind that there are three sides to every story. I'm of the opinion that there were wrongs on both sides but, again, I wasn't there...

I must have watched a different video than the rest of you. The one I watched didn't show much, unless you listen to the one sided narrator, tell you what was happening. Please watch again with an open mind and speakers turned off, and tell me what you see.
THANKS YOU PSP FOR PROTECTING US.
This guy could have killed one of our children. then everybody would have asked why PSP didn't do enough.

The good old boy justice system at it's worst, I wouldn't be surprised if the DA and State Cops involved are drinking buddies. Let's hope the Attorney General's office has the good sense to look into this.

The nations largest street gang.

Zero respect for any officer I don't know for certain is a good person. None, notta, zilch. Nothing about the PA State Police seems worthy to garner my respect.

With cops like these, who needs criminals?

I get pulled over by them I treat it like any other stranger approaching me with lethal and "less than lethal" weapons, with great caution and suspicion

Make no mistake, no matter how good you think a certain percentage of them are, they are capable of committing terrible acts and walking off scott free, as we can see here.

This is what you get in a police state.

With an AG like this, the guy must have his eyes on a Governors office one day. Just what PA likes, a dirty man that can play ball.

Wow, lots of comments using vague logic to defend a citizen getting beaten w/in an inch of his life. No matter what you think he did, he did nothing to deserve this. So why bring it up?

The police are supposed to be the professionals. I give them no lax when they say "i was scared so i killed/beat/tazed 50 times whatever was in front of me"

these men are supposed to garner respect for their bravery and professionalism. Not sympathy every time one of them pretends they feared for their lives and destroy the life of some innocent civilian.

Police states love people like this.

Don't press for actual investigation or justice... apparently this nation doesn't do the "justice" thing anymore.

Got what he deserved ?? Really?? That would be like me walking up to someone and severely beating them with a baseball bat because they were saying stuff about me .. And then saying all they had to do was stop ... What those officers did was wrong.. If anyone regardless of any situation did that to a police officer they'd be sitting in the slammer.. That's where those offices should be sitting.. Everyone should be treated equal.. It's sickening to know that a badge makes people think they are above the law ...

something that has been bothering me since this video first hit this site. i might have missed something so don't get angry if i have. they documented the injuries to this young man very well and i can't help but think if a grown man jumped from the top of a car onto this kid's back that something should have been broken or at least that there should have been bruising or boot prints on his back. what we see is bad, but in reality it doesn't appear to be WAY over the top (other than the cussing, swearing and chest thumping). the narrator, and us, seem to draw a lot of conclusions from things we really can't see. hopefully one day we will get the truth- minus all the hype- and justice will be served no matter who was right or wrong!

Yeah. "how dare you not pull over for me? I am a cop. Now I will beat the shit out of you" makes alot of sense to me....some you people make me sick. You think this is ok? I dont care what the reason is

Anonymous said...

The guy did nothing wrong but not pull over was all. He has some mental problems he thought the cops would go around him. What they did to him and others is very sad to thing these are the ones who are suppose to help us. And the the whole thing was covered up. I sure hope I'm never on a back road and one of these try to pulol me over. I will wait til I get around people.

I would say Mr. Barrett needs to be investigated along with his cronies.....such injustice in the land of the free, HOME of the brave, unheard of and disgusting.

this is our duty to contact our reps and demand that justice be done. if we leave this to the police and the D.A.s nothing is going to come of it. We paid for that beating and we need to fix our wrong, getting rid of a bunch of out of control psp would be a start. Harrisburg has bestowed way to much power to these thugs and we as a whole need to be heard. And to anyone who has the balls to defend these criminals must be a control freak idiot. Just remember where your pay check really comes from and your employer is pissed.

Those guys are out of control. Our local psp are out of control to. When did protect and serve change to lie cheate and steale?

Anonymous said...

I can tell you right now I hope there is cell phone coverage or a busy street near me if I get pulled over. Otherwise I will not STOP until I have one or the other, especially on a dark back road ! PSP should have a outsider looking into this and the officers (used loosely) suspended W/O pay until ! Our justice system is one sided when it comes to the BLUE CODE. As I personally have heard a JUDGE on the BENCH say if it comes between cilivians and a officers word the judge will ALWAYS side with the officer. To which they do.Lets just hope something comes out of this sad story.

sad to think this is what we have evolved to. To any l.e.o who endorse's this conduct, you are in the wrong line of work ,its a shame they could brain wash you that way, maybe there is still hope for you.

da barrett and the pasp of towanda involved in this mess should at the very least resign your posisions as officers of law because you are not doing your jobs uphold serve protect honor are words that real people use not a bunch of badge wearing thugs you will be judged in the end but i hope it is by 12 real people in a real court not a corupt one like towanda

The outrage of this is there were several officers present and it appears none of them tried to get sitution under control be for the numerous beatings whats with this
