GALETON DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION MET JULY 19


THE GALETON DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION MET JULY 19 FOR THEIR MONTHLY MEETING. MIKE CAMPBELL AND ANDY MACENSKY WERE THE GUEST PRESENTERS. THEY CO -CHAIR THE GALETON FIREWORKS COMMITTEE. THEY EXPLAINED HOW IT IS ORGANAIZED AND OPERATES. THE COST OF THE 4th OF JULY DISPLAY WAS $18,000. THIS IS FINANCED WITH CONTRIBUTION BY INDIVIDUALS AND LOCAL BUSINESSES. THE GALETON FIREWORKS ARE KNOWN THROUGHOUT THE STATE AS ONE OF THE BIGGEST AND BEST IN PENNSYLVANIA. OVER 15,000 PEOPLE WERE IN TOWN FOR THE SHOW THIS YEAR. GALETON FIREWORKS HAS BEEN A TOWN TRADITION FOR OVER 50 YEARS THANKS TO A DEDICATED GROUP OF VOLUNTEERS.

BORO COUNCIL PRESIDENT, BEN HOPPE GAVE A VERY HELPFUL AND INFORMATIVE REPORT ON THE BOROUGH ACTIVITIES WHICH COVERED STREET PAVING, THE SALE OF THE FORMER GLOVE FACTORY PROPERTY, AND IMPROVEMENTS TO THE WATER SYSTEM IN WETMORE RUN.

COUNTY COMMISSIONER, SUSAN KEFOVER GAVE HER EXCELLENT UPDATE ON WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THE COUNTY COMMISSIONER'S OFFICE. SHE OUTLINED THE PREVENTIVE HEALTH CLINICS TO BE AVAILABLE IN THE COUNTY AND A SUPERVISED PROGRAM FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE WORKERS.

PRESIDENT JOE PAGANO BROUGHT EVERYONE UP TO DATE ABOUT THE DESCRIPTIVE PLAQUES TO BE ERECTED ON THE MAIN STREET OVERLOOK SHOWING WHAT MAIN STREET LOOKED LIKE IN THE EARLY GALETON YEARS AND ALSO A PLAQUE SHOWING WHAT THE PARK LOOKED LIKE WHEN THE TANNERY WAS THERE IN THE LATE 19TH CENTURY. JOE ALSO REPORTED THAT THE NEXT PHASE OF THE PARK IMPROVEMENT IS WELL UNDERWAY WITH BIDS AWARDED AND WORK TO START IN AUGUST. THIS IS BEING FUNDED BY A GIFT FROM THE GALE FOUNDATION. THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE RESTORATION OF THE BAND HOUSE. THE WEST MAIN STREET IMPROVEMENT PROJECT IS CONTINUING AND WILL BE A MAJOR IMPROVEMENT TO THE TOWN.

Way to go, Galeton. Why can't Coudersport do what Galeton is doing? We can't even get people involved to revitalize the town.
