Man Charged With DUI After Emporium Crash

An Emporium driver wasn't hurt when his 2008 Ford Ranger went off the road and rolled into a tree after swerving to miss deer in the roadway on Thursday, but State Police found he was Under the Influence.

Edmund M. Stuart, 65, Emporium, PA, was traveling east on Pine Tree Road in Shippen Township at 5:49 PM , when three deer entered the roadway in front of him. He turned to the left to avoid striking the deer, and the rear end of his vehicle began to slide, spun counter-clockwise and slid across the roadway. The vehicle then traveled onto the north shoulder and down a small embankment and rolled onto it's right side against a tree.

Trooper John Whitcomb said Stuart was wearing a seat belt and was not injured in the crash. Upon further investigation and an interview with Stuart, it was determined that he was DUI. He was taken into custody without incident and charges are pending in District Court 59-3-01.

Not sure of all the details, but one thing I do know is that this man needs prayer and help. How many of you might be in the same situation some day from doing something very irresponsible?
