Offshore Oil: Congressman GT Thompson....DRILL, BABY, DRILL !!

House Passes Replacement for President Obama’s Dismal Offshore Energy Plan
Non-Partisan Congressional Research Service: President’s Plan Offers
Lowest Number of Offshore Lease Sales in History
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson today voted to support H.R. 6082, the Congressional Replacement of President Obama’s Energy-Restricting and Job-Limiting Offshore Drilling Plan. The bill passed the U.S. House by a vote of 253-170.

“The United States continues to move closer to energy security by utilizing new technologies to tap vast amounts of natural resources on state and private lands.  Meanwhile, the President has proposed policies that prevent the nation from realizing these same opportunities on taxpayer-owned federal lands,” said Rep. Thompson. “This bill replaces the President’s offshore development plan that blocks access to 85 percent of offshore lands with a plan that allows us to responsibly develop more of our domestic resources.”

Under current law, when any President proposes a new five-year offshore drilling plan it must be submitted to Congress for a mandatory 60-day review before it can be codified and go into effect. The President submitted his plan to Congress on June 28, 2012.

According to the non-partisan Congressional Research Service, the President’s plan offers the fewest number of lease sales of any offshore leasing plan in history. H.R. 6082 replaces the plan and makes 29 offshore leases available for sale, nearly double the President’s proposal.

“As Americans bear the burden of skyrocketing gasoline prices, this administration has continued to block domestic energy production, which is a critical component for any credible long-term plan to deal with our nation’s energy crisis,” Rep. Thompson added. “Opening up new areas to production of taxpayer-owned oil and gas will help provide a stable energy supply, create jobs, and generate additional revenue to the Treasury.”

On July 18, 2012, H.R. 6082 passed out of the House Natural Resources Committee, by a vote of 24-17.  Click here to view remarks delivered by Rep. Thompson earlier this week lauding the committee’s passage of the bill.

Why not? You've already destroyed the land. I guess the seas are next

Funny how they can get something done for the oil and gas industry at the drop of the hat, while they all sit on their hands for the jobs bills that the country really needs

GT is still stalling on his own personal healthcare plan. For a guy that tells everyone and anyone how he made his living as the admin of insurance companies, he certainly hasn't given any alternative to Obamacare. Oh yea, he doesn't want any reform.... that's how guys like him make the big bucks.... he just wants to bash the dems.

Oh boy. Look, this old chestnut again.

FUELS GO ON TO THE OPEN GLOBAL MARKET. We gain nothing as a country by letting BPs and such drill more, nothing. It will all get shipped to China anyways.

Remember the gulf spill? I do. I remember my elderly Republican parents screaming "how could this happen!" and "that Obama isn't doing enough" when it was the hazardous unregulated drilling with no regard to our environment Bush did that caused the mess to begin with.

Bush again. I bet you guys are tired of hearing that. Especially those that voted for him, because you idiots share the blame for it.

It must suck to know you voted (twice) for the guy that wrecked our economy and almost destroyed a large portion of our ecosystem.
(and lets not forget the thousands of troops that died on his war based on lies and daddy issues)

But just keep telling us how Obama didn't shut the barn door fast enough after you Republicans let the horses out.

And how many have died since 2008 you scumbag? How dare you use our troops as leverage for your political argument

Anything we drill for will be shipped overseas.

How many have died since 2008? Whoa there pardner! That war started way before 2008. So get YOUR facts straight. You are talking out your ass because you mouth MUST know better.

How many died BEFORE 2008 HUH?... Yep, just blame it all on President Obama. Just like "OUR" $15 Trillion plus national deficit (and I , myself didn't have a thing to do with that so where do they get this "OUR" and "Your share" crap?) Oh No, wait! I'll bet you blame President Obama for that too. Yep, did it all in the almost 4 years he has been president. What about all of the Senators, Governors, Congress,Senate and all of them? Bet their pockets didn't get lined and they didn't help run up the bill. Some of you people need to get your heads out of your ass and wise up. Willard won't be the answer either. He will run us even farther in debt and look out for only the rich.

Ummm. Debt was around 7 trillion when bummer took office. Just saying....
