Bolivar fatal fire: Surviving baby in foster care

Bolivar fatal fire: Surviving baby in foster care

By John Anderson

SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. —As funeral arrangements are being made for the three who died in the house fire in Bolivar on Sunday, there is a new focus on the one child who escaped the fire alive, 1-year-old Charles Holmes.

The child is in a foster home in Coudersport, Pa., and one of the family members said she deserves custody.

Barbara Alaimo, the great-grandmother to the surviving child, said she has six children who have never been arrested and the worst thing to ever happen to her is a speeding ticket.

“We were not notified (by some of the family) after the fire,” said Alaimo. “Any one of us could have taken him. Why were we not notified?”

Tina Kemp, the grandmother of the children, died in the fire along with Eric Holmes, 3, and Jessica Holmes, 2.

Alaimo said she is glad to know her granddaughter, Mary Holmes, 25, of Shinglehouse, Pa., will get out of jail for a week for the funeral and to see the child. She also said Terry Green, Kemp’s boyfriend, deserves a lot of credit for paying for the funeral himself.  More...
