The Galeton Rotary Club met Thursday October 11 at the Ox Yoke Inn. President Beth Hoff presided. President Beth reported on the Sheffield, Pa. Woodsmen's show. It was a nice event, however, a very local affair. She did pick up some good ideas which may help the Rotary woodsmen's Show in August 2013. Beth also stressed the need to start working on volunteers now.

Sarah Garber will be starting working on a Rotary Interact Club in the high school.

Next week, David Castano, president of the Potter Co. Historical Society will speak about the tanneries in Potter Co. Tanneries played an important part of the economy of Potter Co. at the turn of the 19th century. Nationally, the leather industry, at that time, was the largest industry in nation..

Phyliss Conable reported that the Galeton Club has collect $1,500. To fight polio so far this year.

Rotarian, Bob Spencer gave a very interesting program about the history of snipers in the US military from the Revoluntionary war to the present time. Sgt York and Capt. McBride were heroes of the First World War and Carlos Halfcock was the hero sniper of the Vietnam War.

Bob Introduced Bill Merkle who is a distinguished marksman. There are only 3,000 distinguished marksmen in the US military. He showed the club his special sniper rifle.

Besides Mr.Merkle, Rick Moran from Philadelphia was also a guest. He recently moved in to the area.
