Public Invited to Free Water Quality Monitoring Workshop

Public Invited to Free Water Quality Monitoring Workshop

(Carlisle, Pa.) – Representatives from the Alliance for Aquatic Monitoring (ALLARM) at Dickinson College will hold a free training workshop on Saturday, November 17, from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM at the Gunzberger Building in Coudersport. The training is sponsored by the God’s Country Waterdogs.

Individuals and community groups interested in monitoring creeks and streams within the Shale-gas drilling region are encouraged to attend. During the Shale-gas Monitoring Workshop, participants will engage in an educational program from ALLARM’s water quality experts to learn about the importance of community monitoring, the science behind shale gas drilling, and water pollution that could stem from natural gas drilling. Participants will also develop the tools to monitor, collect, and analyze stream quality data.

Since June 2010, ALLARM has conducted 45 trainings with over 900 participants in Pennsylvania, New York, and West Virginia to build community capacity to collect and analyze water quality data.

Advance registration is required. To register, contact Jim Clark at 814-887-5613 or email jac20@psu.edu. For more information about ALLARM, contact Julie Vastine at 717.245.1565 or vastine@dickinson.edu.
