Harold Arvid “Arv” Hanson, 77, of Crookerhouse Lane, Bradford, PA, formerly of Eldred and Long Island, NY

Harold Arvid “Arv” Hanson, 77, of Crookerhouse Lane, Bradford, PA, formerly of Eldred and Long Island, NY, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday (January 15th, 2012) in his residence.

Arv was born in Kane, PA on March 16, 1935 to the late Harold and Lillian Canaan Hanson and he now enters eternal life where he joins his loving wife Norma Jane "Penny" Blaske Hanson, whom he had married on August 2nd, 1958 in the Eldred United Methodist Church.

He was a graduate of Bradford Area High School, Class of 1953 and graduated from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania in 1957 with a bachelor’s of the arts degree in education. He had also received his master’s degree from Adelphi University.

Arv had lived on Long Island for 37 years before moving back to Eldred in 1996 and then to Bradford in 2008.

He taught history and was also a certified driver’s education teacher for 33 years at Oceanside High School on Long Island, NY.

Mr. Hanson was a member of the Eldred United Methodist Church and a former member of the Smethport Country Club where he and Penny enjoyed playing golf.

Arv was an avid outdoorsman, he hunted for over 50 years and had enjoyed fishing, as well as bowling, when he lived on Long Island. He had played football for Bradford High School and later at Lock Haven University. He was very active in the athletic department at Oceanside High School where he officiated for track and field. He also enjoyed socializing with his many friends and had enjoyed dining in area restaurants with them.

He was a devoted and loving father to Karen (Michael) Rizzacasa of Getzville, NY, Susan (Michael) Sammis of Oak Park, CA, Thomas Hanson of Bellmore, NY and Scott (Janine) Hanson of Amity Harbor, NY; loving grandfather to Sean and Bryan Sammis, Stuart Turman and Olivia Rizzacasa. 

In addition to his grandchildren he is also survived by his devoted sister, Lori (Bob) Horton of Avon, NY. He is also survived by his close friend and companion with whom he resided, Joan Gulnac Mongillo.

In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his twin brother Harry Alvin "Al" Hanson and his sister Caroline.

Friends may call Friday (January 18th, 2012) at the Frame Funeral Home in Eldred from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 am at the Eldred United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ron Emery officiating. Burial will follow in Lamphier Cemetery, Eldred.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Eldred United Methodist Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
