One of two freshmen on powerful Senate Finance Committee
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) today announced that he has been assigned to the powerful Senate Finance Committee for the incoming 113th Congress. He joins Sens. Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.) and Rob Portman (R-Ohio) as new Republican members and will be one of only two freshmen senators on the committee.
In addition to the Finance Committee, Sen. Toomey will retain his seats on the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs; Budget; and Joint Economic committees. He will no longer be serving on the Senate Commerce Committee.
“I am honored to receive a seat on the Senate Finance Committee, which is a huge win for Pennsylvania and will ensure that our state is represented on one of the most important committees in Congress,” Sen. Toomey said. “The Senate Finance Committee oversees all matters relating to taxation; trade agreements; and health programs under the Social Security Act, including Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program. With our sky-rocketing deficits and stagnant economy, I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to enact pro-growth reforms of our inefficient and overly complex tax code and modernize our entitlement programs to make them sustainable for the long-term.
“I will also continue to be an active member of the Budget, Banking and Joint Economic committees. Over the past two years, I have written two budgets and drafted legislation to reform regulation of our financial services sector and help create jobs. These committees play important roles in the health of our economy, and I will continue to push for lower spending, a reduction in job-killing regulations and greater economic opportunities for all Americans.”

This is the corporate tool that brought those Peter G Peterson charts to explain the exorbitant spending. I remember those charts. They showed benefit spending from 2006 and then benefit spending in 2010. Conveniently leaving out the years 2007, 2008 and 2009 which were Bush's final budget years and even more conveniently...the main years of the economic collapse engineered by his fellow corporate tools in Congress.

Toomey has no business balancing a checkbook, let alone making economic policy decisions that will affect millions of his constituents.

He was willing to lie to Coudersport back then. His credibility on economics is zero and shows just how much disdain the republican leadership has for us, the citizen

I am changing my party. I am so sick of the Republican party and their bullying and only caring about the rich and not the backbone of America ;ie the farmers, the truck drivers, the factory workers, the nurses, the low paid people at the fast food restaurants......These are the people that keep this country running and are helping to pay the outrageous salaries of ALL politicals. They are a bunch of blood-sucking parasites!

3:57, The economy under Pres. Bush was quite strong until his last year in office. The financial collapse was triggered by Chris Dodd (D and Barney Frank (D). Bush had warned about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and the entitlement party ignored his warnings.
Pat Toomey is a good and decent man.
If Obama has his way you won't have to worry about the corporations you apparently fear so much,; there won't be many left.

You are obviously NOT a famer 10:25 but you ARE very uninformed. Keep your mouth shut because you don't know what you are talking about.

Some of you obviously can't read. The poster gave the farmers as an example of hard working people that congress is not looking out for. Not as rich people! Read it again before you fly off the handle!

11:17 pm You are so right, far too many voters have been brain washed by Obama. They are all forgetting why things went to hell at the end of Pres Bushs term in office. Well all you people that voted for Obama good luck cause you are getting exactly what you voted for. Your taxes have and will continue to go up, why you ask? Because there are fewer working tax payers than there are people receiving benefits they have not paid into for years. AND if Obama care is not stopped it is only going to get worse.

Oh, so it comes back to President Obama again. You are an idiot. This country went to hell in a hand basket LONG before President Obama was re-elected. Get it? RE-ELECTED! That means that the best man won and the people spoke (again) Get over it!

5:25 If you want to call someone on here an idiot why don't you sign your name? I see 3:11 pm did, she does not hide behind anonymous. It should come back to the current president, he has been the commander in chief for the last 4 years and will be for the next 4 years so he now owns this mess, no one else, enjoy your president.
