Corbett’s DEP withdraws 4 pollutants from regulatory plan

Pa. eases water standard update after industry complaint
Corbett’s DEP withdraws 4 pollutants from regulatory plan

Shale Gas Review
by Tom Wilbur
In the face of industry opposition, Pennsylvania officials have backed away from proposed standards that would limit certain kinds pollution that drilling and fracking operators can discharge into the Commonwealth’s waters.

Specifically, the agency has removed proposed standards for molybdenum, sulfates, chlorides, and 1-4 dioxane, because the restrictions “raised the concern of the business community,” according to a recent DEP report. The constituents were originally included in proposed updates to Chapter 93, which regulates water quality under the Clean Streams Law. The revised proposal is now pending approval by the Department of Environmental Protection’s Environmental Quality Board.

The most acutely toxic of the chemicals excluded from the proposed standards is 1-4 dioxane, a manufacturing solvent that can cause illnesses ranging from cancer to organ failure, and for which there is no current water quality standard in Pennsylvania.  Read more...

Yeah, to hell with it, let's all drink cancer.

I hope every single one of you morons that voted these cash-grab-and-run shysters and traitors to their own constituents into office have someone close to you impacted by this. I really do.

Preferably YOU YOURSELF will get sick with some debilitating life-long illness that pains you and follows you the rest of your life,

but that's not how these things usually play out. Usually it's the innocent that are hurt by the actions of the corrupt and their gullible useful-idiot voters.

I don't take pleasure in wishing ill on others, but sometimes it's the only way idiots come around to good sense, when it directly impacts them.

While you local hicks cry and scream about some perceived conspiracy about the 'Communist Muslim Obama' your own men are ok'ing poison being dumped into our waterways... and not only are you not ashamed or outraged YOU WILL VOTE FOR THEM AGAIN NEXT YEAR.

So, par for the course for Pennsyltucky. YE-HAW! Drill baby drill! RighT?

Don't worry Potter Co. You're only getting exactly what you deserve.

I HOPE EVERY WELL IN POTTER COUNTY GETS POISONED AND THAT COUNTY DIES AND GOES TO HELL WHERE IT BELONGS. IS IT ANY WONDER THAT NO BUSINESS WHATS TO STAY IN THE AREA? TOO MUCH HILL BILLY BREADING ANYONE WITH HALF A BRAIN CANT STAND TO LIVE THERE. They whole area shold be up in arms.

I can't believe their allowing this. What is Going On???? Corbutt!!!

This totally defies common sense. We are all downstream and eventually maybe not today or tomorrow but eventually it will catch up to us. I quess some people just want to think about today and think about themselves

Hey drill baby drill, you're a jackass. are you related to the guv?
I wonder why the clergy throughout the commonwealth isn't weighing in on any of this. Deliberately dumping poison into our water isn't just criminal, it's not moral.

Excellent question...where are the clergy? I am not catholic but I do respect the new Pope especially his concern for the environment. It is time the religous communities step up and become vocal about protecting the earth and our god given resources. Yes I know oil/gas/coal are resources but they were not meant to be abused by a few at the expense of the rest of us. Air and water take priority, necessary for life itself and are not owned by anyone at least not yet. Of course standing up for what is right and for the common good might affect what lands in the collection plate.

10:30am - can't mix gov and religon. if a church speaks against this, you'll see it mysteriously close it's doors or have an "accidental" fire and bur to the ground.

just saying ...

the cure to pollution is dilution

Thanks to all you good Republicans out there who voted Corbett into office, simply because he is a Republican, knowing full well he works for the gas industry and does not give a damn about the health and welfare of the citizens of Pennsylvania. Yes, thank you very much. You are all so damned shortsighted. If it's a republican, it must be OK. Well, guess what? Sometimes you have to vote AGAINST the GOP because they are in it for big business ONLY. They have never been the party for the people. They want to do away with social security, Medicare as we know it, school lunches, day care, clean water, clean air, anything that helps the rest of us to live. They care only about big business and the money big business will put in their pockets. So thank you all you Republicans out there who blindly voted to put Corbett in charge. He will not stop until there is no clean water or clean air left. Guess what? If we don't have water to drink and air to breath, all the $$$ he puts in his pocket will do us no good. I hope you all continue to be happy with your choice. And I have no doubt you will all vote for him again. You care nothing about anything except "The Party." Enjoy the life he leaves for you and your children and your grandchildren. And thanks again.

I'll take Corbett over any liberal anti business demorat any day! 7:36 calls me a hill billy? How about turning caps lock off and use spell check! 10:30 am ya like the demorats have any morals! If so i have never seen one!

You are correct. Thank you Mr Corbet for allowing us to harvest our own natural resources. I will be re electing you along with a few million others.

We must stop useing oil, natural gas, and coal. All wells produce production water with gas and oil.The gov. wont let them put it back down a well from which it came. The only option is Wind Mills, Nuclear, and bicycles.

Anonymous said...

Really,, What can a couple of chemicals do??? Lighten-up, its no big deal.

Anonymous said...

Can't you see the difference between not drilling at all and doing it wrong? Because people complain doesn't mean they're 100% against it. We want it done right and done without jeopardizing or health and that of future generations. There is no reason to dump poison into our watersheds. No reason at all, except to save money, and this is what drives everything nowadays.

Maybe you drillbabies should read some of the history of Appalachia. The reason why so many people there in the extraction areas have so few teeth is they don't have potable water. They drink soda instead. Is that really what you jackasses want for yourselves and your family?
