The Galeton Rotary met on March 14 at the Ox Yoke Inn in Galeton with president Beth Hoff presiding.

The Galeton Rotary met on March 14 at the Ox Yoke Inn in Galeton with president Beth Hoff presiding.

The club voted to buy a Shelter Box for $500. A Shelter Box includes a tent, cooking gear, basic tools, blankets, children's books and a water purification kit. These boxes are delivered to disaster areas within 24 hours. Rotary International tries to maintain an inventory of 50,000 boxes. Recently they were made available in N.Y. And N.J after Hurricane Sandy. The club also voted to set aside $250. to help the new interact club at the Galeton High School get started. The club also set aside funds to send two Interact Members to the Rotary District Conference in April. The conference will be held in Gettysburg. This is the 150th anniversary of the historic Battle of Gettysburg.

The results are in for the recent Four Way Test speech competition set up and developed by Rotarian Sarah Graber. Sarah is also a GHS English teacher. The first place winner is Zack Brown, second place went to Dan Hatch and third place to Josey Beck. Zach will be moving on to the regional competition in Clearfield on April 6 All of the GHS participants gave excellent talks. A really fine group of students.

Phyliss Conable was in charge of the program. She presented Lacey Kennedy and Debra McGlaun key staff members of Highland Chocolate Company located in Wellsboro. They gave an excellent overview of this exciting and growing business. Highland is a non profit chocolate manufacturing facility employing special needs individuals in a pre vocational dual business program. Presently 20 adults are employed by the company along with five staff members. The company is a part of the Partners in Progress program out of Mansfield. Many local businesses sell their excellent and tasty products and they now ship nationwide selling both wholesale and retail. It was a very interesting and tasty program.

The Galeton Rotary Club will turn 83 on March 25th and 56 years ago this month Galeton Rotary presented to a sellout crowd the famous Rotary minstrel show (2 performances) which was a fund raiser for the new Galeton School tennis courts. These courts have served the school well and produced many area championship teams.
