Think About It

His Plan, My Plan

I’m not a happy camper this morning. First of all, it’s 7AM and it’s still dark outside and I’d much prefer the sunshine even if it is suppose to rain today. But more importantly, I’m not happy because my devotions have kicked my backside to a jarring reality that I didn’t really want to hear. Let me say right here that following Jesus isn’t about doing what makes you feel good. On the contrary, if you’re really going to follow him it will mean sacrifice and a battle of your will against his. That’s part of the issue this morning; I’ve been reminded that it isn’t about me and what I want to do or what I desire. It’s always been about his will for me. Just as Jesus endured the cross, so too do I need to remember that what I’m going through at the moment is about something greater than just my discomfort and irritation.

We’re taught from a very early age to seek our own. Be what we want to be, go where we want to go, be with whom we want to be with, reach for the stars and be everything you can be. In the end your propose dies with you, your value and worth are but a passing vapor. Don’t believe me? Walk through a nursing home and see the people who used to be somebody. It’s a sad reality that this is what awaits many in their dwindling years.

Think about this. Seeds have to be buried to grow, caterpillars need to be confined before they can fly, and grain must be crushed before it is useful. Now put that in the context with our own life and we balk, or at least I do. But I do believe that life is about a purpose and to get to that purpose I might have to go through some difficulties, many of which I probably will not like.

In case you’re wondering, I’ve not always believed this way. In fact I explored many avenues before I ended up here. What convinced me? First, I knew that no matter how hard I tried to be a good person, I didn’t always succeed, and that was frustrating. Every direction I looked into said to try harder except one. Jesus said, I died so that you might have life, let me do through you the things you can’t do. Simple isn’t it. Think about it.

All the Gospels derive their basic story of Jesus of Nazareth from one source: the Gospel of Mark, the first one composed. Subsequent evangelists reworked Mark in their own interests and added new material. None of the
evangelists show any concern for creating genuine history. The Acts of the Apostles as an account of the beginnings of the Christian apostolic movement is
historically unreliable, a second century piece of legend-making.
The Gospels were not written as historical accounts, but present a symbolic representation of a Galilean kingdom-preaching sect, combined with a fictional
passion story set on earth, probably meant to allegorize the heavenly Christ's
death and resurrection in the supernatural realm. They are constructed through
the process of "midrash," a Jewish method of reworking old biblical passages and tales to reflect new beliefs. The story of Jesus' trial and crucifixion is a
pastiche of verses from scripture, and has nothing to do with "history
remembered."

Maybe we should concern ourselves with real history. Instead of legend and myth. And if my comment is deleted for being offensive. Then I hope the above religious prattle, is as well. For there are those that find it offensive, me being one.

7:38am & 9:50am move your mouse scroll down and don't read it! The trouble with the world today aside from narrow minded people like you is no one thinks about anything! So don't push your anti religious prattle on me! That i find offensive!

Holy crap you people crack me up ! Do you think this is a newspaper ? It's not !!! It belongs to an individual who is offering FREE news to YOU and thousands of other people in the area. He can put whatever he WANTS on here ! LOL ! If he wants to talk about religion...guess what ? HE CAN ! If he wants to put the obituary on here and lost dogs and traffic accidents.....he can ! Oh, and I thought of something else he can do...he can block you if he wants. He can choose not to post your comments too ! OMG !!! Quick ! call the cyber police, somebody was offended on the World Wide Web. LMAO !

So its ok for people to post religious prattle. But anti religious prattle is not ok?
I forgot free speech only applies to the delusional, and superstitious. And not the reasonable and logical. I awoke this morning thinking I would read some news only to find that yet again some ones antiquated belief systems have yet again been thrust upon me. Just as they are thrust upon the LGBT community, or Atheists, Realists etc. Now if they wish to post such nonsense on their own blog, website, whatever, fine. But keep it there. I thought this was a news site. Where news is posted.

to anonymous who posted @ 9:50...
Do you also believe that the Old Testament is made up stories as well? What about the book of Isaiah which foretells of Jesus' coming, suffering for our sins and his death because of them. Read the
Old Testament Book of Isaiah.
This confirms his life and backs up New Testament writings of his life and the events leading up to his death so I guess its NOT a fictional passion story. JESUS is the reason for the season...thank you JESUS!

Do you believe god sent a flood to cleanse the unbelievers too? Or murdered the first born of Egypt? Did god ask a man to sacrifice his son to prove his faith? Send plagues, turn people to salt etc.? Some god you got there. So insecure he needs to be praised constantly. Supposedly the father of us all. Yet when he disapproves of our behavior he just kills us. Some father. His kids act out and he kills them. Or he condemns to eternity in hell. Better yet he chooses one kid above the others, then has the kid sacrifice himself, to himself. To save the rest of his kids from himself. Brilliant! And its not fiction? Only some fruit loop could come up with a story like that. Or group of fruit loops. And only a group of fruit loops would worship a self centered, petty, jealous, vengeful, intolerant, abusive, father figure.

Your comment makes much more sence the the mumbo jumbo comments made by others.

Someones got their panties in a bind....

In a free world you can choose to keep right on scrolling, just so you don't get all bunched up there in your seat!

Well one could keep scrolling yes. Never speak out. Let people believe in what they will. Then again if we always left the church or the believers say what they wish without contradiction. Then all of us of European decent would still be in Europe thinking the world is flat. It was Ferdinand Magellan who said "The church says the world is flat. But I can see its shadow upon the moon. And I am more apt to believe a shadow than the church." So you see with out those who contradict the church or the believers. Our society would never have advanced or at least not at the pace that it has. In my opinion. All organized religion has stifled knowledge, truth, and reason. Throughout history. And I applaud those who have the courage of their convictions and are willing to stand up for reason and progressive thought. For without it society can not advance.

I enjoy these articles, however, I don't care much or sports. Guess what... I don't read those articles then. It's almost like I'm a genius.....:)

This is kind of an odd place to live if you don't happen to be religious.

We have churches on every corner, we pray about everything, and while this is a private blog it is one of the major news sources for the area.

Anonymous said...

Why do people feel the need for so many churches? Who's more insecure god or the people worshiping him?

Anonymous said...

@6:40 We build churches in gods honor so he doesn't smite us for not having a volcano to throw virgins into.

To the Writer of this article: Fear not. Jesus had his Mindless Bullies too. So much so that their fear of and hatred for him nailed him to the cross. But we know the end of the story! Ha Ha - Death and the grave could not hold the Son of God. Peace to you, brother.

Anonymous said...

Mindless Bullies LOL Who's more mindless? Those who think to question? Or those who never question? Who uses their minds more? Those who prefer superstition, instead of reason seem to me to be mindless.

Anonymous said...

Bullies really??? There's no bigger bully than reglion. If you don't believe in what we tell you to you will burn in hell for eternity. Don't do as we tell you to you are evil. How many innocent gay men and woman have been bullied and tortured by your righteousness. How can we forget about the molestation of thousands of innocent children but that's not bullying at all. It's criminal but that gets overlooked too. That's the do as we say not as we do mentality of the ones that claim they feel the presence of the "Holy Spirit". Jesus would be so proud.

Agree with you march 23 12:23pm. Rational people need to start standing up to these religious bullies. But to be fair some of religious influence can be and are quite good people. However there are those who corrupt religion and use god/jesus to serve their own ends. IE profit or to quantify their own hateful ways.

Here is how I see it... Everyone is entitled to their opinion. No opinion is right or wrong, it is opinion... With that being said, the person that posted the article has their opinion and it was posted. The people that oppose this opinion, have also posted their opinion. Each has the right to do so and neither should be beaten for it. After all, it is just an opinion. You don't have to agree, you don't have to disagree, but by commenting you are giving your opinion just as I am doing now.
Why is it that everyone focuses on right or wrong? Give your point of view, whether it is pro or con, and let the games begin. No need to beat each other up over it. After all, in the grand scheme of things each and every one of us will know in the end who's opinion was closer to the truth, and by then, it really does not matter does it?
