Senate Democrats Seek Job Creation, Education, Safety Net Dollars in Budget Discussions

My Senate Democratic colleagues and I recently unveiled our 2013-14 budget priorities.  Our focus remains clear: grow jobs, invest in education, strengthen the social safety net and provide for the long-term sustainability of Pennsylvania businesses and working families.

We have an opportunity and a responsibility to seek new investments and use available resources to change the direction Pennsylvania is moving.  My colleagues and I have a vision for Pennsylvania mapped out through our budget priorities that we believe will bring our state back to its status as a leader among states.
My colleagues and I are proposing moving forward by refocusing and redoubling our efforts in a number of areas.  We believe more than 120,000 jobs can be created quickly by enacting a responsible transportation plan, expanding Medicaid and using economic development policies outlined in our PA Works Plan.  We are prepared for an honest and transparent discussion on issues including:
  • Refocusing business tax cuts and eliminating loopholes, including Corporate Net Income;
  • Protecting vital assets such as the Liquor Control Board and the Lottery;
  • Repairing and protecting our social safety net;
  • Expanding Medicaid; and
  • Veterans assistance
Read more about our proposal and revenue opportunities here.
Pennsylvania is a place bursting at the seams with opportunity and potential.  We need to regain the ground we have lost.  We are at a very critical point and need direction and leadership.  The plan my colleagues and I are proposing provides a starting point.  We look forward to working together to make this plan a reality on behalf of all Pennsylvanians.

This is part of what is wrong. It should not be the Republicans and the Democrats each doing there own thing. It should be both paties working together from the beginning on the same budget. Think of the money and hours that would be saved. each could have their own work sessions but only one budget would be created.

Democrats are all about more freebees and welfare !

@2:49...that's because republicans are all about selling off any livable wage job left in America to overseas interests because their benefactors will make gobs more money and they'll get the campaign donations that way...
