York County fire chief dies after being struck by vehicle

A 32-year-old York County man has been charged with homicide by vehicle in the death of a York County fire chief early Saturday on Interstate 83.

State police in York said Rodney Paul Miller, chief of Loganville Volunteer Fire Department, Seven Valleys, was diverting traffic on I-83 at exit 8 from an earlier crash when he was struck by Matthew Scott Diehl, of Shrewsbury.

Diehl struck Miller, who was directing vehicles off the highway at 12:51 a.m. Saturday, state police said. Miller was pronounced dead at York Hospital, police said. Diehl continued south on I-83 until he was forced to stop due to stopped vehicles in the backlog of the prior crash, police said. He was taken into custody and charged with homicide by vehicle/DUI and other violations, police said. Read more...
