Baker Announces $50,000 Grant for Hydro Recovery

Baker Announces $50,000 Grant for Hydro Recovery
4/30/2013

HARRISBURG – Rep. Matt Baker (R-Bradford/Tioga) today congratulated Tioga County company Hydro Recovery LP, which is the recipient of a $50,000 state grant from Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Northeastern Pennsylvania.

The grant money will be used to investigate the economic extraction of useful materials from residual “frac” water used in the drilling and development of natural gas wells. The company’s current process converts the used water from drilling to a hydraulic stimulation fluid that can be reused to extract more natural gas.

“Hydro Recovery is doing amazing work with its water treatment technology,” said Baker. “This grant funding will help propel that mission forward and educate others in the industry on why such a process is beneficial to both businesses and the environment. I applaud the company’s ingenuity and overall mission.”

The company uses the latest technology to recycle frac water for reuse in the drilling process, thereby saving millions of gallons of fresh water that would otherwise need to be used. Recycling the water also eliminates discharge of treated water into area waterways.

“Representing a region of the state with an abundance of Marcellus Shale natural gas drilling taking place, I hear a lot of concerns when it comes to frac water,” said Baker. “The work this company is doing will help alleviate some of those concerns and better preserve our fresh water supplies. I look forward to the continued growth and progress of the company.”

Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Northeast Pennsylvania, through its grant funding and technology partnerships, has created 15,820 new jobs; retained 21,645 existing jobs; helped start 442 new companies; and developed 1,189 new products and processes since its establishment in 1983.
