Tr. 49 Harrison Township Bridge Repalcements To Start Monday

Potter County, Two-Bridge Job Set to Start Monday On Rt. 49 in Elmer

Coudersport – On behalf of Governor Tom Corbett, PennDOT today announced that work to replace two Potter County bridges will get underway on Monday, May 13. Once work is complete, PennDOT will be able to remove both from the list of structurally deficient bridges in Potter County. Replacement will also provide area drivers with safer, more efficient travel across modern structures.

Two-way traffic will be maintained during this project through the use of temporary roadways.

The bridges are on Rt. 49 about a quarter-mile apart, near the village of Elmer in Harrison Township. The first bridge spanning Dodge Hollow Run was built in 1941. It’s 34-feet long and is currently posted for “one truck at a time”. The second bridge spanning the Cowanesque River was built in 1932 and is 54-feet long. Both bridges carry more than 2,000 vehicles each day.

Work is expected to last through mid-November and includes replacement of the old bridges, approach work, paving, drainage and guide rail updates, and miscellaneous items. The L.C. Whitford Company, Inc. of Wellsville, New York is the contractor for this $2.2 million job.

Drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits and always buckle up.
