Shell to upgrade sections of two state roads in Tioga County

Motorists in Tioga County are advised that highway construction contractors working for Shell Exploration and Production Company will upgrade sections of two state roads over the coming weeks.

All work is scheduled to start the week of May 20, weather permitting.

The repairs slated for Tioga County include the following:

A half-mile section of Route 1008 (Ashley Hill Road) in Richmond Township will be upgraded from Route 549 to the Richmond/Sullivan township line. All traffic access will be maintained, however slight delays are possible. The work is expected to be completed by June 7.

A 2.3-mile section of Route 1007 (North Elk Run Road) in Rutland and Sullivan townships will be upgraded from Route 549 to Ashley Hill Road. All traffic access will be maintained, however slight delays are possible. The work is expected to be completed by June 21.

Shell has excess maintenance agreements with PennDOT on these roads making the company responsible for repairing any excess roadway damage as a result of its trucking operations. The company determined it would be more cost-effective to upgrade these roads to support heavy-truck traffic rather than continue to make repairs.

It would be nice if they would do something with Hill Creek Rd in Middlebury since they made such a mess of that last year. Considering it is a main road to the park it would be nice if it wasn't such a mess.
