Thompson Issues Statement on Benghazi Terrorist Attack Investigation

Thompson Issues Statement on Benghazi Terrorist Attack Investigation
Newly Released Administration Emails Contradict Previous White House Statements
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson today released the following statement about the investigation into the September 11, 2012, terrorist attack at the U.S. mission in Benghazi.

Tomorrow marks eight months to the day since the U.S. mission in Benghazi was attacked resulting in the death of four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens. Since that time, important questions have gone unanswered and recent news reports contradict accounts put forward by the White House and Obama administration officials. The pressure is mounting on the White House to come forward with a comprehensive account of this tragic event and the days and weeks following the attack. I will continue to support investigative efforts to uncover the facts, for the American people deserve to know the truth and nothing less.”

Thompson is a cosponsor of H. Res. 36, which would to establish a Select Committee, with full subpoena powers, to further investigate and report on the attack.

Today, ABC News reported that talking points used by President Obama and U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice following the attack were, in fact, “scrubbed” by the White House and State Department 12 times to remove any reference to terrorism or prior warnings of a possible attack: “The edits included requests from the State Department that references to the Al Qaeda-affiliated group Ansar al-Sharia be deleted as well references to CIA warnings about terrorist threats in Benghazi in the months preceding the attack. That would appear to directly contradict what White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said about the talking points in November.”

A report released last month by the five House committees investigating Benghazi determined there was “a fundamental lack of understanding at the highest levels of the State Department” about the degree of danger posed to America officials in Libya. The report further stated the administration had “willfully perpetuated a deliberately misleading and incomplete narrative that the attacks.”

Officials at the State Department vehemently deny that there was any shortfall in available resources. The order to STAND DOWN was the reason the attack lasted as long as it did. Your efforts to deflect blame are obviously not well researched. I want the truth and so do the families of the fallen heroes!

Bush had over a dozen Benghzi's several with much larger loss of American life. This is not to diminish this tragedy, but we should have a bit of perspective here.

Crap happens. It's the middle east. This event was tragic, as have been hundreds of events in that region.

Let's not forget the thousands of other American lives we've considered to be a fair trade for our missions in the middle east. And the hundreds of thousands of civilian lives that have been sacrificed as collateral damage.

There were so many riots in the region no one knew what to expect, but the military commanders weren't about to throw more men into an uncertain situation (you don't turn 4 casualties into 20). From Yemen to Egypt to Libya, Syria to Turkey and everywhere else there were constant embassy and consulate protests and riots.

Even the resources in Tripoli likely couldn't make it in time and even if they could have been they were needed for the evacuation there. We knew what was happening in Benghazi could happen at the drop of a hat at any of our other holds. That's why they were all being evacuated.

If there was a cover up I want to know about it. But as is, there seems to be nothing but eternal questions with no satisfaction to when they're given answers.

To me it just seems like (R) lawmakers putting on a show (I'm sure impeachment is next) because they want everyone's focus away from the fact all they've done is obstruct the operation of our government for the past 5 years.

If there was any evidence of wrong doing it would have been presented by now. We'll see if anything new comes out, but everything thus far amounts to little more than political theater.

Sure, having Susan Rice trot out whatever CIA story she was regurgitating was stupid, but it hardly makes for whatever circus the GOP is hoping to manufacture here.

Bush's fault??? Now that's a stretch! You are obviously more interested in protecting your political party than any introspection. This is the most transparent administration ever? What a hoot!

Blame Bush and the republicans! Nice teachings coming from the white house ! Mrs. Clinton and President Obama had nothing to do with it! Like he said in one of his speaches the buck stops with him! You Obama lovin idiots that think Americans getting killed is no big deal make me sick!

NOBODY ABOVE BLAMED BUSH! They were merely pointing out the hypocrisy of the right wing in this situation. During Bush II's years in office there were several embassy/consulate attacks with 100 people killed. Where was the outrage from the right then? This has to do with one thing and one thing only - Hillary Clinton. The good old boys in the Republican Party fear her and will do everything they can to take her down before 2016. GT-Tell your party to stop wasting taxpayer dollars!!!

Roadside bombs have killed Americans for years, If I had lost a son or daughter to one of these I would wonder where's the outcry? These embassy personel know the risks of being in an unstable country.

May 11,10:02 The point is yes they know the risks. But they were sent there by Obama and Hillary Clinton with little or no protection. And denied more security many times by the white house and the state dept. When shit hit the fan they were left to die without help ! Meanwhile Obama went campaining and lied about the whole mess! 9:34 am This is the same Hillary Clinton that called Monica Lewinski a right wing conspiracy! And lets not forget whitewater!

Benghazi attack happened because it was a CIA black site where we were "interrogating" the friends of those that attacked and killed our 4 men.

That's the real conspiracy here. One that doesn't bode well for either party. And it's why you'll never hear the real truth.

In the mean time however they can use this as a smear campaign against Hillary's 2016 run knowing there will never be full disclosure. Win - win for the GOP.

But make no mistake, this is pure politics.

... what ever made any of you think these people (in either party) give a crap how many Americans they get killed?

A politician's only concern when an American dies overseas is if they can capitalize off it politically. Romney showed us that the night this tragedy happened.

Please God, if i can only have one prayer answered, don't let another friggin' CLINTON be elected to office.... or..... how can you tell if a CLINTON is lying????? if there lips are moving!!!!!!!!

Well, I love Obama. You are the idiot. You racist! How's that?

Anonymous said...

Well I hate that lying bastard in the white house. You are the idiot.
How's that????
Really, when we were in Vietnam in 1969 and got to the point where we needed some backup help, it was a radio call away. And we had Cobra gun ships, F-4, A-6, or cannon fire. What ever we needed. Noboday was ever told to "Stand Down". This is just unaceptable. The A_____e has no right to be called Commander and Chief. He is a discrase to this great nation and our Military.

The problem with some of what is happening reminds me of the story of the boy who cried wolf. So many people have been after Obama since the get go that they just aren't paying attention to this story the way they should be.

If you took the time to view the congressional hearing last week with the testimony of the three career employees/whistleblowers, if you weren't outraged by what happened on the ground that day when we lost the ambassador and three other Americans, then shame on you. This is serious business.

As usual, people are viewing this through political blinders, and they shouldn't. People died, and there appears to be a coverup at the highest levels of government, happening right before the presidential election. But people are sooooo tired of listening to the Obama haters for so very long, that they refuse to give this story the traction it deserves. It's picking up steam, but it may not matter anyways, because people are just tired of listening to all the idiots in D.C. in both parties, and that certainly includes our representative, Mr. Thompson.
