Additional restriction placed on Aging Suspension Bridge at English Center

Additional restriction placed on Aging Suspension Bridge at English Center

Motorists who travel Route 4001 (Little Pine Creek Road) one-half mile west of Route 287 near English Center in Lycoming County are advised that an additional restriction has been placed on the aging suspension bridge over Little Pine Creek.

Vehicles nine feet or higher are prohibited from crossing the bridge. Steel and plastic structures, often referred to as “headache bars” have been installed at each end of the bridge to enforce the height restriction.

Motorists are reminded to obey the restrictions associated with the bridge. The 306’-long English Center suspension bridge was built in 1891. It is classified as both structurally deficient and functionally obsolete and is already posted with a 3-ton weight restriction.

A rehabilitation project on the bridge is tentatively scheduled in 2018.

5 years away? That doesn't sound right. It should be first in line before they do another thing with our taxes. Are they waiting for someone to get hurt or killed? If it's that bad... put up a temporary bridge, like they do everywhere else.
