John J. Polucci, Sr., 88, of 44 Forman St., Bradford, PA

John J. Polucci, Sr., 88, of 44 Forman St., Bradford, PA, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at the Pavilion at Bradford Regional Medical Center.

He was born on April 4, 1925 in Bradford, a son of the late Louis and Marie Conti Polucci. On October 4, 1952 in the St. Bernard Catholic Church, he married Veronica A. “Bonnie” Vigliotti. After 55 years of marriage she passed away on January 13, 2007. He was a 1943 graduate of the Bradford Area High School.

In 1943 he joined the U.S. Marine Corp. and during World War II he served in the Pacific theatre; he also served during the occupation of Japan. He was discharged as a Corporal in 1946. He was employed for thirty-three years at the Department of Labor & Industry. He was a member of the St. Bernard Catholic Church. He was also the current President of the Marche Club and a member of the Lt. John C. Roche Post 212 VFW.

He is survived by five children, Mary (David) Goodman, Susan Polucci, John (Nancy) Polucci, Jr., Judith Berg, Anthony “Louie” (Jeanne) Polucci, one brother, Anthony Polucci, six grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents and wife he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ann Montecalvo, Rose Polucci and one brother, Albeno Polucci.

His compassion and generosity towards others was endless as was the dedication he showed towards his family and many friends. He was a prominent figure in Bradford for his entire life and was a loyal and devoted friend to the many who loved and admired him.

The family will receive friends at the St. Bernard Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, at which time a Mass of Christian Burial will be held with the Rev. Raymond Gramata as celebrant.
