Operators Restart Unit 1 at PPL Susquehanna After Completing Turbine Modifications
BERWICK, Operators reconnected the Unit 1 reactor at the Susquehanna nuclear power plant to the regional electric grid Friday (6/14), after completing improvements that will address the turbine issues experienced at the plant over the past several years.
"We will continue to monitor the performance of the turbines on both units over the next few years to confirm the modifications are working as designed," said Timothy S. Rausch, senior vice president and Chief Nuclear Officer.
Unit 2 returned to service June 5, having completed a refueling and maintenance outage.
The Susquehanna plant, located in Luzerne County about seven miles north of Berwick, is owned jointly by PPL Susquehanna LLC and Allegheny Electric Cooperative Inc. and is operated by PPL Susquehanna.
