Weather Briefing - Upcoming Rain Event Via Potter County DES

Weather Briefing - Upcoming Rain Event

 • Several rounds of rain will affect the Commonwealth Thursday through Saturday

• First wave of rain will occur Thursday with the approach of a Warm Front from the Southwest

• Second wave of rain will occur Friday with a plume of tropical moisture moving across the region

• Still much uncertainty in timing, amounts, and placement of heaviest rain

• Latest forecasts and computer models indicate that widespread flooding is not anticipated at this point

–Recent dry conditions means that streams and creeks are flowing average to below average for a good portion of Pennsylvania

–Flash flood guidance generally higher than average for early June

• With the tropical moisture influence, there could be some localized areas of heavy rain resulting in small stream and poor draining flooding

• For larger rivers, headwater areas would be most susceptible to flooding.

–Main Stem rivers not anticipated to flood at this point...although there will be rises of several feet.

Am I the only one thinking they are trying to justify their existance by telling us its going to rain tomorrow? At some level this seems silly.

It's all about early warning! NOAA is running scared since they missed the call on the serious tornados in Oklahoma. It you drown in a flood, you were warned.
