Human Services Advisory Board To Meet

Human Services Advisory Board To Meet

people-circleHundreds of people are directly affected by programs offered by Potter County Human Services (PCHS), but few take the opportunity to provide input on how those services are delivered. An organization that’s in place to accommodate public comments and suggestions will hold its next public meeting on Thursday, July 18, at 7 pm in the PCHS building at Roulette. A public hearing on the Children & Youth Services Needs-Based Plan will also be held at 7.

PCHS operates programs for victims of alcoholism and other drug abuse, older citizens, the mentally ill, children who are at-risk, and the intellectually challenged. Members are appointed by the Potter County Board of Commissioners. Anyone interested in being considered for appointment to the board should contact the Commissioners Office at 274-8290, extension 207.

Attending the board’s most recent meeting were members Dawn Deiter, Charles Wicker, Linda Swift, Dr. Victor Brown, Cameron Kockler, Sue Valentine and Gary Perkins. Also attending were Commissioner Susan Kefover and Human Services staffers Jim Kockler, Ken Hoffman, Mark Benson, Sherry Hoffman and Ronda White.

Discussion centered on the proposed expansion of “block grant” funding from the state to give counties greater flexibility in providing services; plans to provide adult protective services in Potter County, in compliance with Pa. Act 70 or 2010; and the need for sufficient funding to meet countywide demand for home-delivered meals.
