Ole Bull Music Festival Awards Concert Held In New York City

The 60th Ole Bull Music Festival Awards Concert took place at Merkin Hall in New York City, on Sunday afternoon, July 14th. The event was the latest milestone in the long history of the Ole Bull Music Festival, and a landmark in the development of the Spunky Norwegian Foundation, the concert's major sponsor. The festival was initiated by the late Dr. Inez Stewart Bull of Montclair, NJ and Galeton, PA.

Three young musicians traveled from St. Mary's, Pennsylvania with their entourage, including family, friends and board members of the Foundation, as well as fellow performer, Martha Geissinger. The three had won their spots in the New York concert with their piano performances at the Ole Bull Music Festival in Galeton, PA last October.

The date for the Ole Bull Festival in Galeton this year has been changed to SATURDAY, October 26, 2013.

Joining Joshua Kolesar, Juliana Silveri and Hannah Onink in the youth performance segment of the program were students of Dee Jackson Field and Philip Field at South Valley Arts in East Orange, NJ. The South Valley contingent included Allan Theodore (flute), Amru Ayinde and Jaleel Davidson (piano), Jessie Edwards (cello) and Nkem Garland, Vanessa Hubbard and Samantha Yaya (vocal).

Philip Field , Allan Mullgrav, Jr, and Martha Geissinger performed piano pieces by Beethoven, Scarlatti and Tchaikovsky, among others. The IMANIA Women's Choir, directed by Dee Jackson Field and accompanied by Philip Field, completed the afternoon's schedule with the traditional closing piece, "I Will Sing." This song composed by the Fields, was a favorite of Dr. Bull's.

Dr. Nancy Arny Pi-Sunyer, of Montclair, NJ, Vice-Chair of the Foundation, served as Mistress of Ceremonies. She was joined on stage at the close of the performance by fellow board members Dee and Philip Field of East Orange, Lynn Nicklas and Victor Pasi of St Mary's, PA and Barbara Andrews of Galeton, PA.
