Richard H. Lepold, 71 of Cranesville, PA, died Thursday, July 18, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born July 16, 1942 in Niagara Falls, N.Y., a son of Edna Lepold Mahon and the late Henry Lepold.

He was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1964 and later deployed to Vietnam where he served with the 5th Howitzer Battalion, 27th Artillery. He transferred to the U.S. Army Reserves in 1966 and subsequently discharged in 1970. He received the Sharpshooters Badge, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Upon his discharge he worked in Pipeline Construction in the Coudersport area where he later managed a service station. He later lived in Texas working as a carpenter and truck driver, moving to the Erie area in 1996.

He was a member of the Girard American Legion Post #494, where he was active in the Honor Guard, a Life Member of the Springfield VFW Post# 4965. He was a Cleveland Indians and Browns fan; a NASCAR and Tony Stewart fan and enjoyed hunting and gardening.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Anne Sherwood and a brother, Leonard "Tuffy" Mahon.

He will be sadly missed by his family which in addition to his mother, Edna and stepfather, Leonard Mahon, includes his wife, Donna Johnston Lepold; two daughters, Rose Guthrie (Melvin Jr.) Lori Prince (Chuck); two sons, Richard Lepold (Chris), Brad Lepold (Sherry); a step daughter, Leslie Jo Beere (Rodney); two step sons, Lawrence Smith, Travis Smith; three sisters, Alice Burgett (Dana), Cherie Shall, Kristine Landen; (Eric) five brothers, Terry Lepold (Sue), Leo Lepold, Rocky Mahon, Don Mahon, (Rita), Jerry Mahon; twelve grandchildren; He is survived by 10 grandchildren, and 6 great-children and many nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to attend memorial hours on Monday from 2 p.m. to the time of Military Honors at 4 p.m. at Edder Funeral Home Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the "Honor Project" C/O Lake Erie Community FCU, 721 Rice Ave., Girard, PA 16417.
