Heavy rainstorms that fell overnight Thursday and late this morning caused flooding that temporarily closed State Route 414 and State Route 14, sent a swift water rescue team into a campground, evacuated a trailer park and swamped homes, among other issues.
Flooding in the Post Creek area left standing water and debris on Route 414 – one of the main roads to Watkins Glen International on NASCAR weekend – and forced the road to be closed temporarily by the state Department of Transportation.
It was closed in the early morning hours Friday, reopened, and then shut down again after another late-morning downpour.
The DOT had to inspect a bridge on Route 414 near Buck Hollow Road because there were fears it had been undermined by flooding, but it was deemed safe.
Route 414 was reopened by late Friday afternoon.
