PennDOT Places Speed Display Sign in Wetmore Township, McKean County

PennDOT Places Speed Display Sign in Wetmore Township, McKean County

Clearfield – Motorists on Route 66 in Wetmore Township, McKean County, will be reminded to obey the posted speed limit after PennDOT placed a radar-controlled speed display sign today. The placement will raise awareness of the 35-mile-per-hour speed limit in this area and aid in curbing a common type of aggressive driving.

The sign is located south of Kane, facing southbound traffic. The speed display sign uses radar to determine the speeds of oncoming traffic. Vehicle speeds are then posted on the lighted section of the sign.

Speeding and other aggressive driving behaviors are among the leading causes of crashes and fatalities in Pennsylvania. Other aggressive driving behaviors include running stop signs or red lights, passing illegally and tailgating.

Aggressive driving behaviors were listed as a crash cause in more than 48 percent of McKean County crashes in 2012.

West Main Street and Route 59 going out of Smethport could use this as numerous vehicle operators exceed the posted speed limits.
