Public Meeting Of Human Services Panel Sept. 19

Public Meeting Of Human Services Panel Sept. 19

people-circleHundreds of people are directly affected by programs offered by Potter County Human Services (PCHS), but few take the opportunity to provide input on how those services are delivered. An organization that’s in place to accommodate public comments and suggestions will hold its next public meeting on Thursday, Sept. 19, at 7 pm in the PCHS building at Roulette. Members will meet for dinner prior to the public session.

PCHS operates programs for victims of alcoholism and other drug abuse, older citizens, the mentally ill, children who are at-risk, and the intellectually challenged. Members are appointed by the Potter County Board of Commissioners. Anyone interested in being considered for appointment to the board should contact the Commissioners Office at 274-8290, extension 207.

Attending the board’s most recent meeting were members Charles Wicker and Linda Swift. Also attending were Commissioner Susan Kefover and Human Services staffers Jim Kockler, Sherry Hoffman, Ronda White, Colleen Wilber and Joy Glassmire.

Discussion centered on the proposed expansion of “block grant” funding from the state to give counties greater flexibility in providing services; the departure of Erie Homes from Potter County, resulting in a reduction of available services for those with intellectual disabilities; budget deficits affecting the Community Care Behavioral Health managed care provider for the mentally ill; and needs-based planning and budgetary issues related to Children and Youth Services.
