Senator Pat Toomey--Finding A Way To Dismantle Obamacare And Fund The Government

Finding A Way To Dismantle Obamacare And Fund The Government
Click here to watch my remarks on the Senate floor. Pat Toomey
All my Republican colleagues and I want to end Obamacare completely. All the Democrats support Obamacare and want it to continue. The Republicans control the House and have passed defunding legislation. Democrats control the Senate and will not pass defunding legislation. Thus, we are at an impasse.
Yesterday, seeking to break this all-or-nothing standoff, I proposed a way to fund the government and to repeal some of the most egregious parts of this terrible law. Acknowledging that Senator Reid has the votes to strip the bill of its Obamacare defunding language, I sought to offer three modest amendments to the Senate bill. The first would repeal the medical device tax that is costing Pennsylvania jobs; the second would provide relief from the infringement on religious liberty in Obamacare; the third would delay the individual mandate for one year.
Those three items all have bipartisan support, could have passed the Senate, and might well be acceptable to the House.  But we will never know because the Democratic leadership would not permit me to offer those amendments. For this reason, and others, I voted against the measure.
I remain hopeful that Congress will avoid a government shutdown. I will continue working with colleagues on both sides of the aisle and in both chambers of Congress to find a responsible solution.

Mr. Toomey, how about if you start by defunding your own taxpayer funded health insurance that we are footing the bill for. You make enough money, you should be able to pay for your own. Put your money where your mouth is. Save the taxpayer's some money, reduce the deficit and buy your own policy. Until then why don't you shut the duck up! I for one would like to have AFFORDABLE health care premiums.

Any family that handled their finances like most governments do would end up bankrupt. I don't see why government can't be held to the same standard of responsibility.

Democrats are for Obamacare. It's up to the Republicans to do something about that.

Watch my vote. Bye bye.

So basically he wants New York's old system. Yeah that did not work

God forbid we try it

or change the law it to make it better.
It's basically a Republican plan, you'd think they might be able to alter it?

(R) are pissed they lost on this issue in two presidential elections,

now their number one absolutely terrifying fear is

...America might end up liking it. And realize (R) have been full of it.

The old (current) system sucks.
The new system sucks.

Let's give the new one a try, it might suck less.

and even if it doesn't, the only thing it should be replaced with is single payer. Health care should not be subject to raw business equations.

Unless you like the idea of being told "yeah, we could treat your illness but we just don't see where the profit is. Sorry"

(and there is the rub. These politicians don't stand for you. They stand for their owners. The companies that stand to have their profit margins raked in so that people can receive affordable care)

Try it. Then 5 years from now if it fails you can scream I told you so. You can win the elections you need to and THEN change it.

Sabotage our economy and every action between then and now? Try to force a change what what little gerrymandered power you could compile?

Go to hell, that's not governing, that's holding the nation hostage for what YOU want. Democracy be damned.

But Mr. Toomey, the majority of your constituents WANT Obamacare! And once it takes effect and the rest of them realize what a good thing it is, everyone will want it! That's exactly why you want to defund it now...before people know what they will be missing out on. No way, even at the expense of the health and welfare of this nation will you allow President Obama to have what you see as a personal victory for him. It is not a personal victory for the will be a victory for all Americans if we all have affordable health care...JUST LIKE YOU.

So the people on here seem to think the aca is a great idea. Let the government have more control in your lives. I ask where the Doctors will come from first. We currently have a Doctor shortage. I think getting our jobs back and people working should be top priority.
