Elizabeth J. McCutcheon, 89, formerly of 118 Congress Street, Bradford, PA

Elizabeth J. McCutcheon, 89, formerly of 118 Congress Street, Bradford, PA, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at The Bradford Ecumenical Home.

Born April 4, 1924, in Bradford, she was the daughter of the late Howard D. and Helen Shay (Acker) Sears.

On October 6, 1946 in Buffalo, NY, she married Sophronous A. 'Sam' McCutcheon, Jr, who passed away March 12, 1999. On November 5, 2006, she married Fred Hemingway, who passed away June 5, 2010.

A 1941 graduate of Bradford Senior High School, she attended Margaret Morrison Carnegie College for Women in Pittsburgh.

Upon completing her schooling, she was employed by the Curtiss-Wright Corporation and The Bulletin Index, a weekly news magazine, both in Pittsburgh. Upon returning to Bradford, she worked for Corning Glass Works as an executive secretary.

She was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bradford. She was a gifted seamstress and enjoyed sewing.

She is survived by four daughters, Martha (Edward) Smega, of Olmsted Falls, OH; Sarah (James) Kendrick, of West Palm Beach, FL; Althea (John) Hicks, of Bluffton, SC and Sophronia (Dennis) Moriarty, of Parkville, MO; four stepchildren, Fred Hemingway of Pittsburgh, Chris (Ron) Fehlman of Youngsville, Kim (William) Graham of Bradford and Shirley (Jeffrey) Pecora of Lewistown; three grandchildren, Karen (Robert) Nechvatal, of Columbia Station, OH, Chasity (Jeremie) Kester and Jacquelyn (Chad) Doyle, both of Kansas City, MO; one great-granddaughter, Mikayla O’Guin of Kansas City, MO; a half sister, Judi Bennett of Bradford; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Sears of White Post, VA; twenty step grandchildren and seven step great-grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her brother, F. Dean Sears, and a stepdaughter, Roberta Barnstorff.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 11 AM on Saturday, October 26, 2013 in The First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Robert Klouw, Co-pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
