Smethport – Weather permitting, PennDOT expects to open a Smethport bridge to traffic on Monday, Nov. 4 as replacement work winds down. Work to replace the bridge on Route 6 has been on-going since May of this year. With a new bridge in place, PennDOT will shorten its list of structurally deficient bridges in McKean County by one. A new bridge also provides area drivers with safer, more efficient travel across a modern structure.

The bridge spans Marvin Creek on the west side of Smethport Borough, near the Dollar General Store. The bridge carries an average of more than 2,100 vehicles each day.

A temporary road that’s been used to guide drivers around the work will be removed once the new bridge is open.

The bridge is opening a few weeks ahead of schedule, with final paving, seeding, and barrier staining scheduled to take place next spring. Work has included replacement of the old bridge, approach work, paving, guide rail updates, and miscellaneous items. Dolomite Products Company, Inc. (A.L. Blades) of Hornell, New York has been the contractor for this $2.4 million job.
