The New York State Police in Allegany County are currently investigating a 5 car motor vehicle accident with injuries on ST-243 in the Town of Rushford near Balcom Beach Road. Initial investigation reveals a chain reaction collision within a work zone resulting in one vehicle occupant sustaining serious injuries. ST-243 is closed to traffic between CR-23 and ST-19 while the investigation continues and the crash scene is reconstructed. Detours have been established and it is estimated the road will be closed for 2-3hours. Updates to follow.

Operator of vehicle #1 - KENNETH C. SWANN, 88, of Angelica, NY traveling northbound on ST-243 enters work zone where vehicles 2-5, also traveling northbound, are stopped in traffic. SWANN fails to observe stopped traffic and strikes vehicle #2 occupied by NATHAN D. ANDRES, 20, of Sandusky, NY forcing his vehicle into vehicle #3 resulting in serious injuries to ANDRES. Occupants of vehicles #3 through #5 suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene. ANDRES was transported to Olean General Hospital. Investigation to continue.
